JOB DESCRIPTION SUMMARY
The Assistant Teacher, ESL Family Liaison is directly supervised by the Director of ESL and serves as a support to English Language Learners (ELLs) and their families as they navigate the enrollment process and adjust to Pittsburgh Public Schools. This bilingual position requires strong communication skills in both English and Spanish and a deep understanding of the challenges faced by ELL families. The Assistant Teacher, ESL Family Liaison ensures a smooth enrollment process, addresses family needs, and provides essential support to connect families with the appropriate school services.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
1. Field calls and emails from families in multiple languages, scheduling in-person enrollment appointments as necessary.
2. Work closely with families and 12 month ESL Family Liaison during the enrollment process, ensuring all required components (documents, immunizations, etc.) are completed.
3. Serve as the secondary contact for Central Office SDSS, schools, school nurses, and counselors regarding new English Language Learners (ELLs). Ensure all stakeholders receive necessary information.
4. Assist teachers and other school personnel to serve English Language Learners as needed.
5. Submit documents for translation and communicate with families about transcripts, immunizations, and other enrollment requirements.
6. Guide families through onboarding, providing information about start dates, transportation, and Pittsburgh Public Schools systems and processes.
7. Answer calls from families and the community in Spanish, connecting them with appropriate departments/schools and providing translation services when needed.
8. Assist with Spanish translation and interpretation as required, particularly during high-volume times.
9. Participate in departmental, team, and individual planning and goal-setting.
10. Communicate effectively and confidentially at all levels, over the phone, face-to-face, and electronically.
11. Other relevant duties as assigned by supervisor in support of the department's goals and objectives and the District's mission and Superintendent's Priority Goals.
EDUCATION REQUIRED
48 College Credits or High School Diploma & successful completion of a reading and writing assessment.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES
- Fluency in both English and Spanish is required
- Experience working with multilingual families and communities, particularly within a school setting.
- Familiarity with enrollment systems and online portals
- Familiarity with the challenges and needs of English Language Learners.
- Excellent interpersonal communication skills, cultural sensitivity, and the ability to handle sensitive information with care
- Ability to prioritize tasks and show flexibility based on changing needs.
- Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to cultivate relationships, work independently and collaboratively as a team player, under pressure with multiple competing deadlines, and with culturally, educationally, and racially diverse internal and external customers.
- Demonstrated proficiency in MS Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Word
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
