The Atlantic seeks an Associate, Talent & Culture for our New York City office.
We’re looking for a meticulous, grounded, and proactive individual to oversee the daily operations of our Soho New York office which is home to about 200 employees across two floors. This role is central to ensuring the office is a welcoming and highly functional backdrop for ambitious ideas, daily rituals, and the quiet mechanics of a thriving workplace.
The ideal candidate is energized by the art of hospitality and operations. We are looking for someone who finds satisfaction in the details, takes pride in a well-run system, and brings warmth, discretion, and professional ease to their interactions with colleagues, guests, and vendors. At The Atlantic, one of our core values is a “spirit of generosity,” and you’ll see that reflected in the way colleagues support each other and care about the space we share.
The Associate position is part of The Atlantic’s broader Talent & Culture Team and reports to our Office Manager based in Washington, D.C. This position will support many administrative components of our recruiting process, initially focusing on interview coordination and candidate communications, and eventually expanding to include tasks such as candidate tracking and onboarding support. As with the rest of the role, this work is about more than logistics; it’s about helping create an organized, welcoming experience that reflects our values at every stage.
Responsibilities include:
  • Remain present and available at the reception area during regular office hours, as this will be your primary workspace.
  • Ensure a friendly and smooth check-in process including registering guests ahead of time with building security.
  • Maintain functionality, organization and aesthetics of the office with a focus on common spaces and conference rooms, actively seeking items that will need attention and organizing.
  • Daily office maintenance including loading and unloading the dishwasher, redistributing glasses and dishes across both office floors, restocking office supplies and snacks, etc.
  • Responsible for setting up, maintaining, and cleaning up the daily lunch service.
  • Manage a mail-distribution process to shipping, receiving, and circulation.
  • Proactively keep the office manager up to date regarding necessary office improvements, repairs, and maintenance issues.
  • Maintain office inventory, the FAQ document, and the lunch tracker spreadsheet in collaboration with the office manager.
  • Supporting the recruiting team with administrative tasks, sourcing, candidate communications, and new hire onboarding.
The ideal candidate:
  • Administrative experience in an office environment.
  • Comfort and experience with food handling in a group setting.
  • A calm, cool, and collected mind—a constitution that affords “grace under fire”—coupled with a personality inclined toward perpetual positivity and a sense of possibility.
  • True service ethic: Willingness to support our employees with exceptional service.
  • Believes that high-quality journalism is fundamentally important—and has the desire to help it thrive.
  • Extraordinarily organized by nature with keen attention to detail and honed prioritization skills
  • Mission-driven, nimble, and flexible.
  • Comfortable with ambiguity and urgency.
  • Impeccable communication and relationship-management skills.
  • Ability to lift 40 lbs and large quantities of boxes easily
  • Strong working knowledge of all G Suite products and WorkDay preferred.
This role is based in New York City and on-site 5 days a week.
Annual Compensation minimum: $66,000; Annual Compensation maximum: $66,000
