The Associate Vice President for Campus Facilities Planning and Event Services is responsible for providing strategic leadership and facilitation of campus facilities planning to include master planning, the university’s capital facilities plan, campus infrastructure, space utilization, sustainability initiatives and conference and event services to align with the institution’s long-term vision and operational goals. This position plays a key role in ensuring efficient use of campus resources, optimizing space management and project management and is pivotal in leading the development and implementation of the University’s current and future facilities planning, while fostering collaboration with stakeholders across the institution.
1. Master Planning & Strategic Development
  • Lead the oversight and execution of the institution’s comprehensive master plan in collaboration with divisional vice presidents and in coordination with the goals of the University’s Strategic Plan
  • Align long-term campus infrastructure projects with academic, administrative, and University goals.
  • Conduct feasibility studies and scenario planning for future growth and space needs in collaboration with divisional vice presidents and in alignment with institutional goals.
  • Work collaboratively with divisional vice presidents, deans, senior faculty, and administrators to promote effective communications and to understand and support the current and future facility needs of the university’s instruction, research, public service, outreach, and student programs.
2. Facilities Planning
  • Provides oversight of Facilities Design, Construction, Space Planning and Renovation projects.
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations for campus facilities.
  • Works collaboratively with Facilities Management and the development of annual budgeting to ensure the efficient use of university resources.
  • Assists with managing and procuring maintenance contracts; develops productivity goals and operational improvements and best practices for highest and best use of the University’s operating budget.
  • In collaboration with faculty and administrative leaders develop data driven strategies to optimize space allocation and efficient utilization.
  • Establish policies and guidelines for space assignments and future planning.
  • Engage the campus community to assess services, support, programs, and reporting across all units. Develop, monitor, and recommend process improvements that align with the university’s strategic vision.
3. Event Management and Conference Services
-Develop, implement, and oversee short- and long-term strategic goals and plans, including the development of new programs and services, to drive growth, enhance profitability, and expand revenue streams which will lead to a full cost recovery unit.
  • Provide leadership on complex issues related to planning, implementing, space utilization and assessing operations for University events and conference services.
  • Work collaboratively with housing leadership on summer housing and conference occupancy programs, including the management of conference room rates, space inventories, and internal/external relationships, focusing on revenue generation, quality assurance, and customer satisfaction
  • Seek and implement continuous improvement, best practices, and innovative solutions to improve operational effectiveness, reduce costs, increase operating margin growth, and enhance the quality of services.
  • Develop processes, staff, and systems that support the planning, execution, and review of all University events.
  • Direct all personnel and vendor management activities to ensure the availability of a competent and high-quality team of professionals which provide excellent customer service.
4. Project Management & Capital Planning
  • Collaborates with divisional vice presidents, dean’s, senior faculty, and administrators at the University to lead, develop and advocate for capital budget process; upgrades and improves facilities to meet Barry’s Master Plan, academic Strategic Plan, Mission and Performance Standards.
  • Identify deferred maintenance for University facilities and develop cost-effective strategies to address those needs through the capital planning process.
  • Assist with identification, selection, and management, of architects, engineers, and construction firms applying for work with the University.
  • Oversee major capital facilities projects, ensuring timelines, budgets, and quality standards are met.
5. Sustainability & Campus Resilience
  • Lead initiatives to promote sustainability and environmental stewardship.
  • Integrate green building standards and energy-efficient practices into planning.
  • Advance institutional commitments to carbon neutrality and climate resilience.
Requirements:
Master’s degree in urban planning, architecture, facilities management, business administration, or a related field.

Minimum of 10 years of progressive experience in facilities planning, campus master planning, or capital project management in higher education or a similar setting preferred.

Strong leadership and strategic thinking skills with experience managing cross-functional teams.

Expertise in space utilization analysis, capital project management, and sustainability initiatives.
Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
