Under the general supervision of the Recreation Manager, the Athletic Services Supervisor is responsible for supervising the work activities of all assigned personnel in the maintenance and operations of parks, recreation facilities, ball fields, and sports programs at City properties on a year-round basis. In addition, it is involved with the operations of special events, athletic tournaments, facility maintenance issues, and other related and non-related projects and /or tasks as required by the City.

This position requires working evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed. Hours may vary, including potential shifts from 6:30 AM to 3:30 PM or 2:00 PM to 11:00 PM, or as late as midnight. The schedule will be based on the sports season, facility rentals, and special events, so flexibility to work overtime and/or 2 nd shift on a year-round basis is essential.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assists with special events, athletic tournaments, youth and adult leagues, assist with swim lessons, movies in the park, schedule and coordinate third-party athletic events and activities, concession stand activities, and other designated functions;
  • Performs customer service relations for tournaments, leagues, games, rentals, and event participants;
  • Conducts park maintenance activities, facility repairs, and sanitation, and preparation of athletic and recreational facilities for sporting events;
  • Promote, organize, and facilitate City sponsored adult and youth league programs and activities;
  • Implement and follow related standard safety and health procedures and practices as it applies to parks and recreation;
  • Directs, instructs, leads, schedules, and reviews the work activities of subordinate and lateral personnel;
  • Performs customer invoicing and payment receipt, money processing, and deposit procedures;
  • Assists with staff to maintain and facilitate daily rental and activity schedules;
  • Documents and prepares daily and monthly work activity records and reports;
  • Assists with the class registrations, monitoring, and supervision of recreational activities at the recreation center with an emphasis on public relations with patrons, instructors, and participants;
  • Assists the Recreation Staff in other recreational needs with miscellaneous duties as required;
  • Ability to assist Recreation Center participants promptly and professionally.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Customer service experience required;
  • CPR and AED certified, or able to obtain certification within 30 days of employment;
  • Strong computer skills, ability to learn recreation Point of Sale (POS) system;
  • Provide excellent customer service and communications;
  • Have a professional, energetic, and positive attitude;
  • Ability and willingness to work as part of a team, demonstrate team skills, and perform a fair share of team responsibilities.

REQUIRED EDUCATION, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE

  • High School diploma or GED;
  • Must be 18 years or older;
  • Valid Texas class C driver’s license is required with a good driving.

DESIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE

  • Previous landscape, ball field, or park maintenance experience requiring the use of similar equipment to this position;
  • Undergraduate degree in Parks/Recreation/Public Administration/Athletics or related field;
  • Bilingual.

Any work-related experience resulting in acceptable and proven proficiency levels in the above required knowledge, skills, abilities, or education, training or licensing could be considered as a possible substitute for the above industry specified training or experience requirements for this position.

WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Medium work. Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 30 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects;
  • Ability to work inside and outside, exposure to varying weather conditions (extreme heat, cold, temperature swings, rain, etc.), exposure to the sun, exposure to moving objects, operating assigned vehicles, movement on uneven terrain and park areas, and occasionally irregular work hours including weekend, holiday, evening hours and overtime, as needed;
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to stand, walk, run, crouch, bend, stoop, kneel and lift;
  • Work with frequent interruptions;
  • Demonstrate patience and flexibility in changing job demands and when interacting with employees, visitors, and the public;
  • May be required to work immediately before, during, or after an emergency or disaster;
  • Ability to maintain emotional control under stress;
  • Manipulate and perform good hand, eye, and foot coordination, mobility and agility;
  • Maintain physical activity and mental alertness over prolonged periods;
  • Manipulate and load/unload heavy objects;
  • Effectively communicate, both orally and in written form;
  • Maintain effective working relationships and represent the City in a positive manner at all times while engaged with City staff and Citizenry.
