The Sun Valley Bald Mountain Snowmaking team is seeking dedicated and safety-focused Snowmakers to support the creation of exceptional snow surfaces for our guests. Snowmakers operate snowguns and other equipment around the clock when conditions allow, ensuring consistent coverage across terrain. This is a physically demanding, team-oriented role that involves working in all weather conditions, both day and night.
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Operate and monitor snowguns remotely via a computer located in Snowmaking Headquarters or by physically inspecting snowmaking equipment
- Remotely or manually operate pumps, fans, and compressors. Snowmakers must also inspect all machines frequently
- Perform routine inspections and operations of the pumphouse
- Safely travel across terrain using snowmobiles, snowcats, skis, or snowboards
- Follow snowmaking plans and instructions to meet production goals efficiently and safely
- Conduct snow removal using manual tools, snowblowers, or plows
- Collaborate with other departments as needed to support mountain operations
- All other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
Passion for the outdoors and willingness to work in all winter weather conditions
Basic computer proficiency
Strong communication skills and ability to work effectively as part of a team
Ability to read, write, and understand English
Able to lift and carry up to 50 lbs
Willing and able to work rotating shifts, including day (8 AM–4 PM), swing (4 PM–12 AM), and graveyard (12 AM–8 AM)
Valid driver’s license
Skiing or snowboarding ability is a plus but not required
- Engage in physical activities like standing for long periods, walking, and utilizing hands for tasks that involve gripping, handling, and reaching
