Community Options, Inc. is a national non-profit agency providing services to individuals with disabilities in 12 states.
We are now hiring a Full-Time Behavioral Intervention Specialist to provide support in Binghamton, NY. The Behavioral Intervention Specialist (BIS) uses best practices and technology within a community-based setting to teach people with developmental disabilities how to acquire the physical, intellectual, emotional, and social skills needed to live as independently as possible. This individual must be able to handle the pressure of training in a public environment, exercise patience, work with a flexible schedule, and respond to crisis situations. Ingenuity and creativity must be utilized when determining the best training methods, assistance, and support for an individual.
Starting Pay Rate: $60,000 per year
Responsibilities
- One on one observation and interactions with our clients
- Assist in building support between the client and staff
- Complete staff training regarding implementation of plans and other related topics
- Ensure compliance with OPWDD & Mental Hygiene regulations and policy
- Develop Behavior Support Plans (BSP), Medication Monitoring Plans (MMP), Behavior Protocols based on outcome of FBA and per regulatory requirements
- Design and oversee data collection and reporting for BSP's, MMPs, Behavior Protocols, including input of information into electronic records (Therap)
- Document treatment notes and complete monthly summaries of client progress
- Prepare progress reports for client's immediate support group, including their family and/or guardian, staff, employment specialist, case manager, and other professionals
- Prepare needed information and participate in scheduled meetings, team, or agency committees (e.g. ICC, IRC), Human Rights Committee, Behavior Team and future development projects as assigned
- Employee must cooperate with the license and department staff in any inspection, inquiry, or investigation
Minimum Requirements
- Level 1 BIS; For a party to be a 1 BIS, the party must have the following educational background:
- at least a master's degree from a program in a clinical or treatment field of psychology, social work, school psychology, or applied psychology as it relates to human development and clinical interventions, and documented training in assessment techniques and behavior support plan development: or
- a national board certification in behavior analysis (BCBA) and a master's degree in:
- behavior analysis; or
- a field closely related to clinical or community psychology that is approved by OPWDD; or
- a New York State license in mental health counseling; and have at least five years of experience: (1) working directly with individuals with developmental disabilities, including the development, implementation, and monitoring of behavior support plans; and/or (2) providing supervision and training to others in the implementation of behavior support plans
- Employment is contingent upon successful completion of checks of criminal background, central registry, child abuse registry, and drug testing
Required Licenses and/or Certificates
- First aid, CPR, OSHA, and medication certification course within first 90 days of employment, and any required residential or state training
