The Medical Assistant provides direct support to the clients at the facility (screening, vitals, waived testing, and medication related activities). The Medical Assistant is responsible for all phases of the self-administration of medication and organization of the documentation in accordance with agency policy and procedure. The Medical Assistant is required to fill out the required forms for self-administration of medication in including Doctor’s orders, medication changes and provide oversight that these forms are completed accurately and in a timely manner.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
1. Act as the bridge and liaison to the Medical Staff to assist clients of Cornerstone Healing Center to access providers (internally and externally). Set client appointments and arrange facilitate telehealth appointments.
2. Provide supervision of the medication room, medication delivery, medication release, medication storage, medication disposal, and all associated elements.
3. Assist and monitor self-administration of medication of over-the-counter medication and if trained, injectable medication.
4. Monitor medication changes as directed by physician and alter medication sets needed.
5. Order medication and med room supplies weekly and pick up and record medications as the come in.
6. Offer medication education and review informed consent of psychotropic or opioid medication.
7. Destroy discontinued medication bi-weekly, in the presence of a witness (2nd staff member).
8. Train and implement the CHC Handwashing program. Act as the CHC site handwashing champion. Observe and document handwashing compliance of employees.
9. Keep accurate and update to date records of client’s medications and any changes to made to medications.
10. Assist clients in understanding the benefits of taking their medications as directed.
11. Train and monitor staff on medication administration and documentation including specific medication issues as needed.
12. Train staff in the safe use and application of Narcan or Naloxone to reverse opioid overdose.
13. Utilize the AED and administer BLS in an emergency.
14. Collect, review, and read the results of Waived Tests; report results to the EMR and when applicable, the MEDIS communicable disease county reporting.
15. Report any medication error to medical director and assure that all paperwork is completed according to agency policy.
16. Maintain high standards of ethical and professional conduct and adhere strictly to confidentiality requirements.
17. Adhere to established standards of hygiene and universal infection control procedures in handling all samples and supplies.
18. Check and report client vitals accurately, with positive “bedside” manner.
19. Provides educational group facilitation when requested, compliant with agency clinical oversight.
20. Transcribe Provider(s) orders accurately withing the health record when required.
21. Comply with all agency policies and procedures.
22. Other tasks and duties as assigned by Cornerstone Healing Center supervisor.

QUALIFICATIONS, EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
· 21 years of age or older.
· Associate Degree, or Trade School, or Certificate Program for Medical Assistant
· Must be Certified (CMA) or Registered (RMA)
· 6 months behavioral health experience.
· Valid Driver’s License.
· Applicable for Residential Care Only- Standard Arizona Fingerprint Clearance Card
· Employee Health – Drug Free Workplace, Freedom of Tuberculous, and Optional Vaccination Programs (HEP-B and/or Influenza Annual)
· Be able to pass a criminal background (APS, NSO, and OIGE)
KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES, AND ATTITUDES REQUIRED
1. Understanding of the medication administration and supervision.
2. Understanding and Competency of hand washing, hygiene, and infection control.
3. Ability to set priorities; maintain accurate medical records on each client in accordance with the master treatment plan goals and agency policy and procedures.
4. Strong interpersonal skills and ability to communicate with clients and co-workers in order to expedite treatment for each client.
5. Understanding on how to complete the documentation of Medication self-administration.
6. Expectation to subscribe to the agency philosophy of total abstinence for recovering alcoholics and substance abuse clients.
7. Ability to provide documentation and reports to medical and administrative staff when required and necessary.
8. Knowledge of state and federal regulations relative to compliance regarding medication storage and self-administration.
9. Ability to read doctor’s orders and complete necessary documentation.
10. Knowledge of various psychiatric conditions.
11. Coordinate services with other departments and health services contractors.
12. Computer keyboarding skills.
13. Understands and can perform basic office-practice skills, including filing, light typing, processing and sorting functions.
14. Can carry out detailed written or verbal instructions.
15. Effective communication skills, friendly and outgoing personality,
16. Organizational skills, and ability to respond to requests effectively and efficiently.
17. Independent work style and attitude to prioritize work assigned without redirection
18. Ability to learn computer programming of the telephone system and to understand when and how to gain professional outside assistance, as appropriate needs arise.
