We are seeking a Behavioral Health Patient Care Associate to join our team!
Wyman 2 is a 15-bed inpatient geriatric psychiatry unit. Well-respected within the community and population we serve, we pride ourselves on providing quality care. Thanks to the warm and welcoming nature of the team, a plentiful number of windows that provide natural light, an attached open-air patio, availability of single patient rooms, and a simple-to-navigate structure of the unit, it produces an inviting atmosphere that puts both patients and their families at ease. Essential Duties & Responsibilities (including but not limited to):
1. Provides direct physical care with activities of daily living to assist patients in maintaining nutrition, hygiene, hydration, elimination, mobility, comfort, and
2. Performs vital signs, weights, intake/outtake, and assessments of patents' belongings and documents in EPIC.
3. Reports changes in patients' physical/mental condition, e.g., sleep, appetite, and general comfort of the patient, as well as mood, affect, and behavior.
4. Participates in the evaluation of patients' needs for general and psychiatric nursing care, and carries out treatment/behavioral plans.
5. Maintains a safe and clean environment for patients and co-workers.
6. Answers patient call lights and ensures resolution of patient issues.
7. Cares for equipment used in the delivery of care.
8. Participates in milieu groups and activities as needed.
9. Provides one-to-one observation of patients as needed.
10. Maintain. Performs all activities in accordance with established unit, hospital, and nursing policies.
11. Transports discharged patients at the direction of nursing.
12. Monitors patient’s whereabouts at all times as directed by the appropriate charge nurse, assistant nurse manager, or the patient's assigned nurse and is responsible for 15-minute checks as assigned.
13. Ability to perform phlebotomy, EKGs, and glucometry as requested by the nursing staff/.
Minimum Qualifications:
1. Verbal, quantitative, and interpersonal skills normally acquired through completion of a high school diploma in order to participate in the evaluation of a patient's physical and emotional needs.
2. Related experience in a health care setting is desirable, or in the process of pursuing a degree in a related field
3. Strong oral/interpersonal skills to ensure the accurate transfer of information to facilitate courteous and/or appropriate clinical information with patients, visitors, and other hospital staff.
4. Must maintain annual competencies and up-to-date BLS certifications
Physical Requirements & Environment:
1. Normal hospital environment.
2. Exposure to infectious diseases, chemicals, and other toxic agents which require the proper precautions and/or PPE
3. Ability to walk and stand for up to 90% of work time, and to push and pull heavy work objects (including patients), and to lift 50 lbs.
4. Fine motor control for limited periods of time to perform patient treatments.
5. Repetitive hand movements and accurate keyboarding skills.
