Job purpose
The Behavioral Health Program Manager will also oversee an agency-wide integrated mental/behavioral health care program that includes the supervision and management of behavioral health professionals across multiple locations. Integrated Behavioral Health (IBH) is a healthcare approach that combines medical and behavioral health services in one setting to treat the whole person.
At Kids First, our team comprises of primary care and behavioral health clinicians working collaboratively to address physical and mental health needs, as well as social factors, to improve health outcomes for our patients. This position will also be responsible for quality improvement projects, enhanced reimbursement, and delegated care. The Behavioral Health Program Manager may also function as part of the pediatric primary care medical team providing behavioral health consultation, assessment, and solution-focused brief therapy to children, adolescents and families.
Duties and responsibilities
1. Integrated Behavioral Healthcare Services
- Integrated Behavioral Healthcare Services
- Oversees and implements a team-based care model for integrated behavioral health within a pediatric primary care practice.
- Screens, identifies, coordinates care, and provides brief intervention, risk assessments, triage and referral for patients. Provides short term individual therapy, using evidence-based modalities including behavior therapy (BT), solution-focused brief therapy (SFBT), motivational interviewing (MI), and cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) appropriate to primary care medical settings. Patient care is estimated to be about 0.2FTE for this position.
- In coordination with team members, assesses patients to determine the appropriate level of behavioral health intervention, including responding to crises, traumatic events, and urgent psychiatric situations necessitating the writing of mental health holds.
- Supports screening and tracking of identified patient populations as determined by our clinical initiatives (substance use and depression screening and intervention, population-based health initiatives).
- Supports the primary care team to develop patient care plans that target improvement in all biopsychosocial domains and engages in team-based care. Leads and oversees weekly care team meeting discussions to coordinate care for complex patients.
- Provides psychoeducation to patients, families, and staff on a variety of topics related to development, emotional and psychosocial health, and wellbeing.
- Demonstrates clinical competence, the ability to analyze and problem solve effectively, and excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Maintains on-going competency in the use of the electronic health record (EHR).
2. Behavioral Health Program Manager
- Supervise and support behavioral health providers across clinic locations. This may include organizing and leading group supervision, providing individual supervision to unlicensed mental health providers (if needed/appropriate), co-signing notes for unlicensed providers, and providing additional support and supervision as a manager.
- Hires, trains, supervises and manages behavioral health staff as they are on-boarded to implement the integrated behavioral health model. Develops, monitors and adjusts the BHP team workflow and caseloads within the primary care setting.
- Oversee patient referrals to outside organizations through supervision of a behavioral health care coordinator. Collaborate with medical providers to determine services that would appropriately meet patients’ needs.
- Provide input and ideas to guide program development to expand services to better serve patients and families, including implementation of the Healthy Steps Program. Update and create policies and procedures, as needed, to help guide staff and workflows towards a cohesive program and model of care across all sites.
- Oversee and coordinate communication around behavioral health with outside agencies and partners including school district staff, RAEs, and universities with participating internship agreements.
- Maintains up to date knowledge of the latest Medicaid billing requirements and guidelines from HCPF and the RAEs. Ensures that staff are compliant with requirements in their billing practices.
- Work with Director of Administration and Finance, Medical Director, and Executive Director to ensure that program and staff costs are within budget goals and that program revenue moves toward target goals for sustainability of the overall program.
Qualifications
- Master’s Degree in: Social Work (preferred), Mental Health Counseling, Psychology or Related graduate degree in behavioral health
- Licensure: Professional licensure in behavioral health in Colorado (required)
- Bilingual English/Spanish (preferred)
- Minimum of 4 years direct clinical experience
- Minimum of 2 years supervising within discipline and meets all HCPF and State regulatory guidelines for supervising staff.
- Experience working in medical settings, preferably within an integrated healthcare framework in a pediatric primary care setting
- Able to provide services to the population served by Kids First Health Care (ages of 0-21)
Physical requirements
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to, stand, sit, talk, hear, and use hands and fingers to operate a computer and telephone keyboard. Employees may also need to reach, stoop, or kneel to install computer equipment
- Specific vision abilities required by this job including close vision requirements due to computer work
- Light to moderate lifting may be required for interventional use

Compensation
Commensurate with experience.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $5,833.00 - $7,042.00 per month
