Job description
We are a full-service boat yard and marina with 45-50 full-time employees. We store roughly 300 boats each winter with 50,000+ service hours provided annually. Our service writers are professionals who are knowledgeable about the marine industry and have a desire to provide our customers with the highest level of service.
Daily responsibilities include project management, writing work orders, responding to customer requests, communicating work to be performed with department foreman and approving invoices before they are billed to the customer.
While the customer service aspect of this job is a full-time position, there may be times where a service writer will utilize their marine skills such as boat handling, rigging, splicing, equipment operation, etc. to assist in the yard.
Requirements
- Must have experience in the marine industry (or similar experience), preferably with both power and sail boats. Ability to operate a boat is a plus.
- Capability to remain organized in a fast paced environment.
- Effective verbal and written communication with boat owners and co-workers to ensure that all work is performed as requested by the customer.
- Ability to efficiently type and use a personal computer.
- Available to work Monday through Friday from 8:00am to 4:30pm. Service writers also rotate working Saturday mornings throughout the year. The typical work week will average 42-48 hours.
- Experience with boat repair, maintenance, boat handling, etc. is a plus.
Responsibilities
- Present a list of all routine and non-routine service needs to customers. Be the go to person for customers to schedule additional work. Contact customers if there are any changes in the scope of work being performed.
- Generate estimates as needed.
- Answer incoming customer phone calls and e-mails in a timely manner.
- Be aware of all in progress on your customer boats. Monitor timelines. Make customers aware of any potential delays or changes in the scope of work being performed.
- Visually inspect work being performed on your boats to ensure it is being carried out to customer satisfaction.
- At the completion of a job, review billing to make sure invoice is accurate and in accordance with any estimate provided.
