The position holder works closely with accounts receivable to identify customers with delinquent accounts and to determine what further action to take. The position requires compliance with established policies and procedures of the Department and a high level of confidentiality. The position holder reports to the Collections Manager and fulfills a forty-hour work week.
- Monitor accounts to identify outstanding debts
- Investigate historical data for each debt or bill
- Find and contact clients to ask about their overdue payments
- Take actions to encourage timely debt payments
- Process payments and refunds
- Resolve billing and customer credit issues
- Update account status records and collection efforts
- Report on collection activity and accounts receivable status
Required Qualifications
- Education: High School Diploma
- Experience: One year of related work experience, to include experience such as with financial data, collections, cashiering and customer service.
- Knowledge, Skills, Abilities: One year utilizing knowledge, skill and ability providing excellent customer service: providing accurate and complete information, having exceptional verbal and written communication skills, being honest and discrete; utilizing basic office equipment (computer, scanner, laser printer), basic accounting, Excel and Word, ERP and HRIS systems; implementing lending and collections practices and federal collection law.
Two utilizing knowledge, skill and ability to organize, investigate, analyze, make decisions, effectively communicate (verbally and in writing), manage time and utilize all available technology.
Preferred Qualifications
- Education: Associate's Degree
- Experience: Two years experience providing excellent customer service: Previous experience with collections and loans. Experience multitasking in a busy deadline driven office. Experience in higher education.
- Knowledge, Skills, Abilities: General knowledge of collections techniques and the laws pertaining to debt collection. Working knowledge of techniques used in collecting, compiling, and organizing data and information, of office automation software and its application.
Work Location: University of Tennessee Knoxville. This position is in-person.
Compensation and Benefits:
- UT market range: $18.00 – $21.00
