## Bus Driver
### Job Summary:
To provide safe transportation for all Head Start participants to and from activities and functions; to cooperate with teachers to promote the health and education of each child, and to work with center staff to assure a smooth flow of written communication between families and Head Start/Early Head Start sites.
### Responsibilities:
- Ability to relate well to children
- Be able to work closely with Head Start staff, families and volunteers in an open, considerate and friendly manner, regardless of age, race, creed, or nationality
- Implement Head Start Performance Standards and all other applicable regulations.
- Serve as a communication link between family and center staff, establishing a relationship of trust and rapport
- Ensure the safe conduct of children to and from the Head Start Center by obeying all applicable laws and regulations to ensure safety of passengers.
- Ensure children’s safety on the bus through the use of seat belts, setting guidelines and observing all safety rules while driving.
- Maintain and follow safest and most efficient routes possible to ensure safe pick-up and delivery of children on school bus.
- Maintain school buses in a safe, reliable operating condition through preventative observation and regular maintenance.
- Maintain and monitor cleanliness of the vehicle
- Maintain vehicle mileage records, and gas or maintenance tickets.
- Provide transportation to parents for parent meetings and activities when no other means of transportation is available.
- Enter transportation and safety data in Child Plus for compliance,
- Maintain and submit all required records and reports by designated deadline.
- Continue to improve in all areas as a person through continued education, training opportunities and evaluation recommendations.
- Attend all meetings, in-service trainings, workshops, and conferences as requested by the supervisor.
- Act as a bus monitor/custodian/classroom aid as needed.
- Work flexible hours when necessary.
- Maintain confidentiality at all times
Children and families will always come first in this Head Start Program, above all defined duties, perceived responsibilities, and/or personal priorities!
### Qualifications:
- CDL (will assist with obtaining, with contract)
- Valid Commercial Driver’s License with a school bus endorsement (will assist with obtaining, with contract)
- Must have good Driving record and pass driving record check
- High School Diploma or GED is also required.
- Applicants must be at least 21 years of age.
### Other Requirements
- Obtain Basic First Aid and CPR certification
- Must be able to lift 30 lbs and occasionally heavier items
- Maintain a current DOT physical exam
- Acceptable tuberculosis screening
- Must pass drug screen and criminal background check
- Mandatory Child Abuse Reporter training
- Strong organizational and time management skills
