Position Summary:
The Business Technician in the Telecommunications, Network, and Desktop role is responsible for providing technical support and maintenance for telecommunications systems, network infrastructure, and desktop computing environments within a business setting. They play a vital role in ensuring the availability, reliability, and security of communication and computing resources to support business operations.
Position responsibilities:
- Telecommunications Support: Install, configure, and maintain telecommunications equipment, including telephone lines, PBX systems, and VoIP services. Troubleshoot telecommunications issues and provide timely resolution to minimize disruptions.
- Network Infrastructure Management: Manage and maintain the organization's network infrastructure, including routers, switches, firewalls, and wireless access points. Ensure network connectivity, performance, and security through monitoring, configuration, and troubleshooting.
- Desktop Support: Provide technical support for desktop computers, laptops, printers, and peripherals used by employees. Install, configure, and troubleshoot operating systems, applications, and hardware to ensure smooth operation and user satisfaction.
- User Training and Assistance: Train end-users on the proper use of telecommunications devices, network resources, and desktop applications. Provide assistance and guidance to resolve user issues and enhance productivity.
- Security Implementation: Implement and enforce security measures to protect telecommunications, network, and desktop environments from unauthorized access, malware, and other cyber threats. This may include firewall configuration, antivirus deployment, and user access controls.
- Documentation and Asset Management: Maintain accurate documentation of telecommunications systems, network configurations, and desktop assets. Track inventory, licenses, and warranties to ensure compliance and efficient resource utilization.
- Remote Support: Provide remote technical assistance to off-site employees, troubleshooting telecommunications, network, and desktop issues using remote access tools and techniques.
- Collaboration and Coordination: Collaborate with IT teams, including network engineers, system administrators, and helpdesk staff, to address complex technical issues and implement solutions. Coordinate with vendors and service providers for equipment procurement, maintenance, and support.
- Performance Monitoring and Optimization: Monitor the performance and utilization of telecommunications, network, and desktop systems, identifying areas for improvement and optimization. Implement changes and upgrades to enhance efficiency and reliability.
- Compliance and Best Practices: Ensure compliance with industry regulations, standards, and best practices related to telecommunications, network security, and desktop support. Stay updated on emerging technologies and trends to recommend innovative solutions.
Essential skills and experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or related field preferred.
- Proven experience in providing technical support for telecommunications, network, and desktop environments.
- Strong understanding of telecommunications principles, network protocols, and desktop technologies.
- Proficiency in troubleshooting hardware, software, and connectivity issues.
- Knowledge of security practices and tools for telecommunications, network, and desktop environments.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact with users at all levels of the organization.
- Strong problem-solving and analytical abilities, with attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a dynamic team environment.
- Relevant certifications (e.g., CompTIA A+, Network+, Security+, Cisco CCNA, Microsoft Certified: Modern Desktop Administrator Associate) are a plus.
- Ability to climb ladders and enter crawl spaces and attics when required.
- Valid driver's license and clean driving record.
- Ability to lift and carry equipment weighing up to 50 pounds and work in various weather conditions.
- Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed.
- Commitment to adhering to safety protocols and guidelines at all times.
Work Environment:
- Required to work in both inside and outside environments in all weather conditions.
Additional Responsibilities:
- Regional Travel is required, as well as occasional after-hours or overtime work.
