Camp Counselor – VCU Middle School Concert Band Camp
Location: 922 Park Ave, Richmond, VA (VCU Campus)
Dates: June 23–26, 2025
Hours: 8:00 AM – 5:30 PM daily
Compensation: Salary commensurate with experience
Position Overview
The Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) Middle School Concert Band Camp is seeking
enthusiastic and responsible Camp Counselors to support our 4-day summer camp program.
Counselors will play a vital role in music instruction, student supervision, and camp logistics.
This is a hands-on opportunity to work with young musicians and contribute to a fun,
educational, and safe camp environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide sectional and group instruction on all wind and percussion instruments
- Assist with the supervision and safety of middle school students throughout the camp
- Support meal times and daily transitions across campus
- Assist the Camp Director with administrative and logistical tasks
- Perform alongside students during the final Gala Concert
- Complete required VCU Tier II training modules as assigned by the Camp Supervisor
Qualifications
Required:
- Proficiency on a wind or percussion instrument
- Strong communication, leadership, and organizational skills
- Availability for all camp dates and hours
Demonstrated experience working in and fostering an environment of respect, professionalism, and civility with a population of faculty, staff, and students from various backgrounds and experiences, or a commitment to do so as a member of VCU
Preferred:
- Demonstrated experience working with middle school students
- Prior experience in music education or performance
- Familiarity with camp or school settings
Salary Range: Salary commensurate with experience
