The base pay scale for this position is $43.27 - $52.40. In addition, this position will be eligible for additional benefits consistent with the role. The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be determined based on various factors, including but not limited to: scope of role, level of experience, education, accomplishments, internal equity, budget, and subject to Fair Market Value evaluation. Education and Experience:
High School Diploma, GED, or a higher level of education that would require the completion of high school, is required. Associates degree preferred.
1-3 years required experience in IP and/or Ambulatory Surgery Coding.
KNOWLEDGE OF:
Knowledge of Windows Operating System, Microsoft Office products, Electronic Health Records, Document Imaging Systems, and office equipment. Knowledge of medical terminology anatomy and physiology, medical procedures, medications, and laboratory test. Knowledge / Basic Understanding of State and Federal Guidelines, Joint Commission Accreditation Standards.
SKILLS:
Active listening, Attention to detail, Problem solving, Critical Thinking, and prioritization. organization and time management.
ABILITY TO:

Job Description
HIM Certified Coder is responsible for reviewing and inpatient, outpatient and ambulatory surgery accounts and assigning all appropriate diagnoses and procedures.
ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES
- Reviews inpatient and outpatient records to identify the appropriate principal diagnosis and procedures and applicable secondary diagnosis and procedures.
- Sequences ICD/CPT codes according to HSS, CMS, ICD-10, CPT assistant, and coding clinic guidelines.
- Meets established department productivity and accuracy standards for coding inpatient, AMS, and outpatient records.
- Contact's providers compliantly utilizing the query process in order to clarify a diagnosis or obtain more specific documentation regarding patients’ treatment.
- Enters ICD10 and CPT codes and updates patients’ information as needed into hospital financial system or computerized department abstracting system which can be used reliably for hospital reimbursement, research, education, and strategic planning.
- Reports information timely and accurately to New York State DOH registries for patients meeting requirements to oncology (Tumor Registry), Alzheimer's and Congenital Malformations as needed.
- Ensures any required coding changes or corrections from 2nd level reviews are completed timely and accurately.
- Maintains or obtains CPC or CCS certification within expected timeframe per established department guidelines.
