Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Chemist to join our dynamic team. The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in chemical analysis and laboratory practices, with experience in various analytical techniques. This role is crucial for conducting scientific research, ensuring compliance with industry standards, and contributing to the development of innovative solutions within our laboratory environment.
Responsibilities
- Conduct chemical analyses using techniques such as spectroscopy and high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC).
- Perform wet chemistry experiments and maintain accurate records of all laboratory activities.
- Collaborate with team members to design and execute research projects adhering to Good Laboratory Practice (GLP) standards.
- Utilize Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS) for data management and reporting.
- Fabricate and test new materials or compounds as part of ongoing research initiatives.
- Ensure compliance with ISO 9001 quality management standards throughout all laboratory processes.
- Maintain a clean and organized laboratory environment, following safety protocols at all times.
Qualifications
1. Education:
Bachelor’s Degree in Chemistry or Related Field: A four-year undergraduate degree in chemistry with good knowledge on general chemistry, organic chemistry, inorganic chemistry, physical chemistry, and biochemistry along with laboratory experience.
2. Laboratory Skills:
Practical Laboratory Experience: Familiarity with laboratory techniques, handling chemicals, operating scientific instruments (e.g., spectrometers, chromatographs), and maintaining lab safety standards.
Experimentation and Analysis: Ability to design, conduct, and analyze experiments, record results accurately, and interpret data. Calibration of products to achieve the desired viscosity, Ph, stability.
3. Scientific Knowledge:
Product Knowledge: emulsifiers, surfactants, active ingredients, humectants, emollients, preservatives, water based/oil based/ alcohol-based perfumes. Basic application knowledge on mathematics and physics for understanding chemical principles.
Analytical and Critical Thinking: Ability to solve complex problems, troubleshoot experiments, and apply theory to practice. Tweaking products for continuous improvisation and stability.
4. Communication Skills:
Technical Writing and Reporting: effective report writing, notes on laboratory findings.
Collaboration and Teamwork: Working with other scientists, engineers, or professionals in interdisciplinary teams.
5. Professional Experience: At least two to three years prior experience in working at toiletries industry making creams, lotions, oils, face wash, scrubs, face cream, etc (balancing water and oil phases, create emulsions for creams and lotions).
6. Personal Attributes:
Curiosity and Patience: A passion for understanding chemical processes and persistence in experimentation.
Attention to Detail: Precision is crucial in measurements, recording data, and ensuring safety. Must be passionate about creating new products and diligent in following instructions.
7. If a person is required for a more senior role: (Optional) Advanced Degrees:
Master's Degree (M.Sc.): Specialization in a particular branch of chemistry (e.g., analytical, organic, physical chemistry). This is often necessary for advanced positions or roles in research and academia.
Certifications and Licensing (Optional):
Professional Chemist Certification: Some countries or states may offer or require certifications (e.g., Chartered Chemist (CChem) in the UK, or certification from the American Chemical Society).
Licensing (e.g., for environmental or forensic chemists): Depending on the field, a chemist may need to be licensed or certified in specific applications.
