POSITION SUMMARY

This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening the community through youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. Under the leadership of the Senior Leadership Team, the Childcare Director will serve as a member of the Y Program Leadership Team. The Childcare Director will primarily oversee programs aligned with their passions, expertise, and the YMCA's operational objectives. They will also support other YMCA programs, including but not limited to Membership, Childcare, Aquatics, Youth Development, Youth Sports, Adult Sports, Enrichment activities, Food Programs, and Health and Wellness initiatives. Additionally, the Childcare Director will support team members' programs during seasonally slow periods in their areas.

The Childcare Director will be responsible for all day-to-day program operations, in Early Childcare, School-aged childcare, and other member services that pertain to childcare with the YMCA> This position requires a team-minded approach, adaptability, and leadership in a dynamic and multi-faceted organization.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

· Build a strong staff and volunteer team that reflects the diversity of those we serve. Build relationships with participants and/or parents to cultivate support for staff and volunteers. Utilize parent volunteers as coaches, program supporters, and program advisory committee members.

· Lead with inclusion and compassion to ensure all participants, staff, and volunteers feel welcome and are treated with dignity and respect.

· Work together as a Program Leadership Team to provide the highest level of program quality, experience, and participant satisfaction.

· Ensure sanitation, risk management, water safety protocols, and child abuse prevention strategies are implemented and followed throughout all program areas.

· Prepare for and lead staff/volunteer meetings. Provide leadership and support to all direct reports. Conduct interviews, create schedules, provide corrective action when needed, and provide leadership to staff. Approve payroll and time off requests of all direct reports.

· Troubleshoot/resolve issues and challenges in a professional and timely manner.

· Other duties as assigned by the Senior Leadership Team.

· Responsible for all operational aspects of assigned program areas.

· Provide strong leadership and support for program staff in administering and implementing program strategies.

· Collaborate with the Senior Leadership Team to set, track, and evaluate program goals.

· Develop new programs and support staff in planning, implementing, and evaluating all program initiatives and activities. Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of and participation in programs, events, or engagement activities.

· Participate in the marketing of ALL programs and registration events. Participate in the distribution of program information and organize registration events. Maintain program registration records.

· Work cooperatively with the Senior Leadership Team to oversee the financial impact of each program. Utilize a program budget worksheet to evaluate “Profit and Loss” for every program offered.

· Maintain inventory of program supplies and equipment. Discarding or repairing any supplies or equipment that is not safe or functional for use. Keeping storage spaces organized and free of clutter.

· Prepare and maintain all program spaces and equipment for safe and effective use.

· Maintain and organize lesson/practice plans for all programs. Communicate plans with program staff and volunteers. Problem-solve as needed when plans go awry.

· Develop and maintain a program instruction manual for each program to serve as a blueprint each season.

· Continuously solicit member/participant feedback and evaluation of our programs and services.

· Build and maintain collaborative relationships with community partners for shared resources and community support.

Monitor program quality and ensure all state and federal laws, regulations, and YMCA policies are followed.

· Understand, demonstrate, and lead with “community first” as the primary benefit to membership.

· Support and lead membership strategies that foster the recruitment of new members and the retention of existing members.

· Lead cause-driven tours for prospective members.

· Create an environment where all who enter know they are welcome and belong. Be intentional about developing relationships, getting to know our members, and connecting them to the Y community.

· Listen to and effectively handle members' and participant’s issues and concerns. Ensure excellent service and engagement are upheld for all members and participants of the Y.

WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL DEMANDS

· This position involves early morning, evening, weekend, and on-call responsibilities, and must be willing and able to accommodate the needs of a changing and fluid work schedule.

· Must regularly lift and/or move up to fifty (50) pounds and occasionally move up to seventy-five (75) pounds or more in the form of supplies or equipment.

REQUIREMENTS:

· Must be 21 years or older

· Complete a comprehensive background screening

· This position involves early morning, evening, weekend, and on-call responsibilities, and must be willing and able to accommodate the needs of a changing and fluid work schedule.

· Complete required certifications and training, including Lifeguard Certification, CPR/First Aid/AED, Child Abuse and Neglect training, Childcare Licensing training, and training for the YMCA’s DAXKO point-of-sale system.

· Conduct monthly in-services with program staff
