Job Description
The Mission of the Quality of Life Division is to proactively address local concerns to create safer, healthier, and more livable neighborhoods through collaborative engagement. Quality of Life Teams, or Q-Teams, are the go-to resource for issues impacting the standard of living in their precinct. These officers are assigned to specific sectors allowing them to build real connections with the community and focus on developing long-term solutions to quality of life issues. From addressing everyday concerns to tackling persistent issues, Q-Teams are committed to making their precincts' neighborhoods a better place to live.
Under the Chief of the Quality of Life Division, the Statistical Analysis Unit will be responsible for the collection, tracking, and statistical analysis of data on current & emerging criminal activities throughout the five boroughs. This unit will interact with the Chief of Department, Chief of Patrol, Chief of Housing, Chief of Crime Control Strategies, and the eight patrol boroughs to provide in-depth intelligence and analysis specifically related to enhanced crime suppression methods and Quality of Life initiatives. Specific tasks for the Analyst may involve:
- Provide analytical and technical assistance to brief the Chief and their staff on a daily basis
- Prepare documentation for the weekly QoLStat meetings
- Prepare and deliver informative, well-organized presentations.
- Represent the Chief of Department at meetings with other police departments and/or governmental agency officials;
- Understand how and when to communicate difficult/sensitive information appropriately
- Conduct data analysis utilizing the following computer applications: SQL Server, HTML and/or ColdFusion

Minimum Qualifications
1. For Assignment Level I (only physical, biological and environmental sciences and public health) A master's degree from an accredited college or university with a specialization in an appropriate field of physical, biological or environmental science or in public health.
To be appointed to Assignment Level II and above, candidates must have:
1. A doctorate degree from an accredited college or university with specialization in an appropriate field of physical, biological, environmental or social science and one year of full-time experience in a responsible supervisory, administrative or research capacity in the appropriate field of specialization; or
2. A master's degree from an accredited college or university with specialization in an appropriate field of physical, biological, environmental or social science and three years of responsible full-time research experience in the appropriate field of specialization; or
3. Education and/or experience which is equivalent to "1" or "2" above. However, all candidates must have at least a master's degree in an appropriate field of specialization and at least two years of experience described in "2" above. Two years as a City Research Scientist Level I can be substituted for the experience required in "1" and "2" above.
NOTE:
Probationary Period
Appointments to this position are subject to a minimum probationary period of one year.
Preferred Skills

A high degree of motivation and organizational skills 4. Exemplary sick and disciplinary records, and favorable Performance Evaluations 5. The ability to handle sensitive/confidential information 6. Experience working on multiple tasks and assignments while maintaining attention to detail, and the ability to be flexible with changing demands and 7. The ability and willingness to produce a high-quality work product under tight time constraints. 8. Computer skills such as Cognos and DAS Lite are preferred but are not a requirement.
Residency Requirement
New York City residency is generally required within 90 days of appointment. However, City Employees in certain titles who have worked for the City for 2 continuous years may also be eligible to reside in Nassau, Suffolk, Putnam, Westchester, Rockland, or Orange County. To determine if the residency requirement applies to you, please discuss with the agency representative at the time of interview.
