Are you experienced in Energy Efficiency?
If so, we have a unique volunteer opportunity for you!

The State of Connecticut, Department of Administrative Services (DAS) Codes and Standards Committee is looking to fill one (1) volunteer appointed seat to help shape the future of the Connecticut State Building and Fire Safety Codes per CT General Statute CGS § 29-251.

WHO WE ARE
The State Codes and Standards Committee is a *twenty-three member committee responsible for the adoption of a State Building Code and a State Fire Safety Code based on nationally recognized model codes and related activities. The committee members each contribute to code adoption through their representation of their respective areas, as well as doing the national model code review and revisions.

REQUIREMENTS
In accordance with CGS § 29-251, in order to be considered for this appointment, you must be a resident of the state.

POSITION DETAILS
Members of the State Codes and Standards Committee meet monthly to review progress of building and fire safety code development efforts, updates on appeals against local and state code officials’ decisions and complaints about local building and fire code officials. Members also take part in meetings and work groups of the Codes Amendment Subcommittee, which is where detailed consideration of new State building and fire safety codes takes place. The subcommittee meetings are concentrated in approximately 18-months of a three-year code development cycle.

The Codes and Standards Committee members may also serve other functions, including serving on panels for appeal hearings and complaints, and in other groups such as the Building Code Training Council, Fire Code Training Council and the Fire Prevention Code Advisory Committee.

The committee meets mostly virtually once a month and, during the development of new state codes, another once or twice a month. The Codes Amendment Subcommittee will meet to discuss and agree on what the next state codes should include and any adjustments to reflect the Connecticut specific needs.
