About Us:Merani Law Firm is a rapidly growing Midtown-based law firm specializing in plaintiff-side government debt collection. With a strong foothold in New York State litigation, we take pride in delivering exceptional legal support services to municipalities and government agencies. We are expanding our team and are in search of a dedicated and experienced Collections Judgment Paralegal to support our litigation and post-judgment enforcement efforts.
Position Summary:
We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Collections Judgment Paralegal with comprehensive knowledge of the NYS court system. This role is essential in managing the full lifecycle of government debt collection cases—from pre-judgment litigation through enforcement. You will be expected to draft and file motions, prepare and execute judgments, and utilize electronic court systems with minimal supervision.
Key Responsibilities:
Motion Practice:
- Draft, compile, and file motions including:
- Motions to extend time to serve
- Motions to enter default judgment
- Motions for summary judgment
- Applications to enter a judgment in a foreign state (e.g., NJ)
Pre-Judgment Litigation:
- Draft pleadings and coordinate service of process
- Manage affidavits of service, Requests for Judicial Intervention (RJI)
- E-filing via NYSCEF and NY Courts e-systems
Post-Judgment Enforcement:
- Prepare judgments and motions for inquest
- Draft and file Notices of Entry, employment/bank executions, garnishments, subpoenas, and contempt motions
- Track and manage case statuses from judgment through collection
Case Management & Support:
- Draft and negotiate settlement agreements and structured payment plans
- Conduct skip tracing and investigative tasks
- Utilize legal research tools (LexisNexis) to support litigation efforts
- Maintain and update Excel-based tracking systems and internal case files
- Review litigation documents and maintain a high level of document accuracy and compliance
Qualifications:
- Education: Associate’s degree required; Paralegal Certificate preferred
- Experience: Minimum 2+ years as a paralegal with hands-on experience in NYS court system and debt collection litigation
- Familiarity with:
- Consumer and business collection laws
- Bankruptcy procedures
- NY Civil and Supreme Court procedures
- NJ writ and judgment docketing
- Proficient in legal platforms including NYSCEF and eCourts
- Notary Public certification (preferred or willingness to obtain)

Pay: From $65,000.00 per year
