COLUMBIA Construction Support Engineering has openings for highly motivated engineers to serve as a Module Leads for SSBN 826 construction. The Engineering Module Leads is a unique and challenging role where individual contributors have the opportunity to serve as the primary technical point of contact to the construction team for a specific module.

Module leads serve as the engineering liaison to the trades for their module and will identify liabilities, coordinate support for the agreed upon resolution path, provide Engineering status updates at shipyard meetings, advocate for minimal construction schedule impact, prioritize and drive engineering resolution. Module Leads will become well versed in shipyard policies and procedures to provide technical guidance to all parties through the construction process in order to expedite corrective actions and solutions. Additionally, Module Leads coordinate multidiscipline teams that identify risks and communicate the Engineering path forward on current, emerging and future shipyard issues and major evolutions.

The Module Lead presents the unique opportunity to work on a first of class build and be a contributing member of this team, directly supporting the ship's progression through final assembly, outfitting, test, and delivery.

Responsibilities will include the following:

  • Providing engineering oversight to emergent shipyard issues that arise during construction and communicate Engineering assessments with Shipyard and Trade Management.
  • Support trades daily in navigating the disclosures and work packages, as well as understanding the build sequence
  • Ensuring drawing revisions and change notices that support construction activities are being prioritized and worked by both construction support and cognizant engineering teams
  • Attending all production meetings (daily startup, plan of the day, shift turnover), providing status of holdups, and driving completion of actions supporting construction such as work package development, material procurement, and provision of engineering direction
  • Working in a project capacity to communicate the risks for the project and provide a technical discussion of emerging issues to facilitate integration of Engineering with the shipyard
  • Conducting multidisciplinary engineering evaluations to support all manufacturing and construction needs
  • Support testing, certification events and government certification meetings

This position is in the Groton Shipyard. This position will require occasional travel to Quonset Point or Newport News prior to modules being shipped to Groton.

Qualifications:

Required:

  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering is required
  • 4+ years of engineering experience
  • Ability to obtain a DOD Secret security clearance or higher is required

Preferred:

  • Knowledge of Teamcenter and Columbia Class design
  • CR/CN experience and familiarity with change management processes
  • Knowledge of the shipyard organizational structure and processes

The candidate must possess strong interpersonal, organizational and communication skills. Candidate must be highly motivated and be able to perform independently, as well as interact with other groups and organizations in a collaborative team environment.
