We are currently seeking a skilled and experienced Estimator to join our growing team.
Summary
We are seeking a Construction Estimator to join our team at Meckley Services, Inc. The Estimator will play a key role in the preconstruction process, responsible for accurately evaluating and preparing cost estimates for commercial construction projects, with a primary focus on renovations. This position requires close collaboration with project managers, subcontractors, architects, and clients to ensure competitive and comprehensive bids.
Responsibilities
- Prepare detailed cost estimates for commercial renovation projects in the $50K–$3M range
- Perform thorough analysis of drawings, specifications, and contract documents
- Conduct site visits and attend pre-bid meetings as needed to develop a full understanding of project scope
- Solicit and evaluate bids from subcontractors and suppliers
- Create and maintain take-offs, pricing data, and cost databases
- Coordinate with internal teams to ensure estimates align with project goals and timelines
- Identify value engineering opportunities to improve cost-efficiency
- Maintain awareness of market trends, labor rates, and material pricing
- Assist in preparing bid proposals and presentations for clients
Requirements
- Minimum 5 years of experience as a dedicated estimator on commercial construction projects
- Strong background in commercial renovations and tenant fit-outs
- Proficient in construction estimating software (such as Bluebeam, PlanSwift, or similar tools)
- Solid understanding of construction means and methods, building codes, and project sequencing
- Excellent communication and organizational skills
- Ability and willingness to travel to job sites throughout Northern VA, DC, and MD
Preferred Qualifications:
- Degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or related field
- Familiarity with local subcontractor markets in the Mid-Atlantic region
- Experience with both negotiated and hard-bid projects
