Summary
KCDC is the largest and most technologically advanced Court of Limited Jurisdiction in the State of Washington. It currently processes approximately 200,000 matters per year with 25 elected judges and roughly 260 employees at 8 courthouse locations. The Court is a leader in many areas involving public safety and access to justice, including the use of problem-solving courts, jail-alternative programs, technology- and judge-managed probation services. Twelve cities contract with King County for court services provided by KCDC.
Position Summary
King County District Court is expanding court services to include access for current Community Court participants by hiring a Community Court Case Manager. The Community Court Case Manager will be responsible for connecting with and providing support to Community Court participants through any of our Community Court programs.
The Community Court Case Manager will be expected to become acquainted with agency, County, State, and court policies, procedures, and regulations. The successful candidate must be able to effectively partner with community agencies to connect participants to resources as needed in the community.
Job Duties
- Provide case management and general trouble shooting to Community Court participants regarding treatment placement and access to other social services.
- Works with Judges and Community Court Coordinators of all Community Court programs.
- Attends all Community Court calendars to assist participants with navigating the Resource Centers and connections to services and assists in running the Community Court Resource Centers at all program locations.
- Maintain a proficient working knowledge of all commonly utilized Community Court treatment and non-treatment resources and make referrals as appropriate.
- Provide participants with information on the expectations of the Community Court and conduct intakes with prospective participants (both in and out of custody) as needed and coordinate transportation to treatment, housing move-in, and other services for participants.
- Acquire and maintain a high level of competence in the understanding of substance use disorders, mental health disorders, socioeconomic and cultural factors, and treatment resource availability.
- Monitor and report on participants' progress throughout the Community Court program to a multidisciplinary team both orally and in writing.
- Participate in client staffing and policy meetings and make well-reasoned, defensible clinical/treatment recommendations to a multidisciplinary team.
- Apply a professional and therapeutic approach to problem solving participant needs.
- Provide back-up support for Community Court Coordinators as needed.
- This position may assist the Therapeutic Court Manager, Community Court Coordinators, and other staff with the planning and implementation of new Community Court programs and resource centers.
Experience, Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills
- High school diploma and five years court program management experience including experience with social/human services programs. OR an equivalent combination of education and demonstrated experience which provides the knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the responsibilities of the job.
- Ability to clearly organize and present ideas, both orally and in writing
- Ability to work independently and be a self-starter.
- Ability to stay focused and calm in a busy environment
- Ability to work with vulnerable populations effectively
- Knowledge of the criminal justice system
- Knowledge of problem-solving court models and case-management approaches
- Knowledge of local city and county agencies and community-based organizations that provide social services
- Strong interpersonal skills to establish and maintain effective working relationships with external partners as well as with judges and staff
- Ability to effectively work with people with differing cultural, ethnic, and lifestyle backgrounds
- Ability to identify needs, to develop plans and evaluate results

- Knowledge of principles of administration, planning, supervision, and organization

- Ability to maintain regular, consistent, and predictable attendance

- Selection process: Application materials will be screened for qualifications; the most competitive candidates will be invited for one or more panel interviews. Any employment offer will be contingent upon the results of a criminal background investigation and fingerprinting.
- Work location: You may be assigned to work at any District Court location which include: Shoreline, Seattle, Redmond, Issaquah, Bellevue, Burien, Auburn or Kent (MRJC). Employees must reside in Washington state and within commuting distance to the King County Courthouse to meet sporadic workplace reporting requirements.
- Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, talk or hear, and use hands to finger, handle, or feel. The employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, reach with hands and arms, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl, and move and/or lift up to 10 pounds. The vision abilities required to perform this position include close vision.
- Working Conditions: Work is typically performed in an office environment with a moderate amount of noise (computers, printers, light traffic). This role routinely uses standard office equipment.
