Consumer Protection Investigator, Consumer Protection Division, Office of the Attorney General

Salary: $27.36 per hour

Primary Duties: The Consumer Protection Investigator (CPI) serves the public by investigating and resolving consumer complaints, facilitating the informal dispute resolution process between consumers and businesses, and working with the Consumer Protection Division (CPD) litigation team to build effective cases using Idaho’s Consumer Protection Act and other applicable statutes. The CPI serves as a resource for consumer inquiries and conducting consumer protection outreach and education to diverse audiences and communities across Idaho.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Three to five years of experience in customer service, administrative support, mediation, or a related field involving communication and recordkeeping.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication, data entry, telephone, and customer service skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy in handling records and consumer information.
  • Ability to manage sensitive and confidential data in a professional and ethical manner.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and ability to learn internal tracking systems.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Experience with public speaking and presentations.

Required to pass a fingerprint-based background check prior to employment.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working in the public sector or with a regulatory or enforcement agency.

  • Ability to read and understand laws, statutes, codes, and regulations.

  • Good knowledge of consumer protection principles and complaint resolution processes.
  • Familiarity with applicable Consumer Protection laws and procedures, with the ability to coordinate with legal staff to address complex or high-risk complaints.

  • Experience preparing case notes, summaries, or internal recommendations for review.

Familiarity with investigative processes and experience supporting case development through documentation and pattern recognition
