Position Overview
The Controller is responsible for planning and directing the Accounting Operations according to generally
accepted accounting principles (GAAP) and regulations. He/she oversees functions that include accounts
payable, accounts receivable, bank reconciliations and payroll.
Position Responsibilities
- Plans, directs and evaluates the accounting operations, policies and performance, overseeing all
transactions related to general ledger, accounts receivable, accounts payable and financial reporting
- Leads month-end, quarter-end and year-end accounting activities
- Oversees the production of periodic financial reports; ensures that reported results comply with GAAP,
local, state and federal requirements
- Maintains a documented system of accounting policies and procedures; implements a system of
controls over accounting transactions
- Completes payroll processing and overseeing reconciliation of related activities in support of benefit
administration
- Reviews and recommends improvements to the internal controls and security of all accounting
applications to ensure conformity with auditing standards
- Recommends benchmarks that will be used to measure company performance
- Assists with the preparation of the annual budget; prepares budget vs variance reports and supports
future forecasts. Reports significant budget differences to stakeholders. Mentor stakeholders to
develop their financial skills
- Oversee quarterly and annual tax reporting and compliance. Ensures quarterly and annual reporting
requirements are completed by tax accounting vendor
- Works with external auditors and provides needed information for the annual audit
- Serves as a stakeholder in the procurement, development and implementation of account systems

Required Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance
- Seven or more years of work experience in accounting, corporate finance, financial planning and
analysis
- Thorough understanding of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) and auditing standards.
- Knowledge of analytics tools such as Quickbooks Online or Google Data Studio. Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Excel
- Excellent analytical, decision making and problem-solving skills
- Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail and accuracy
- Effective written and verbal communication skills
- Demonstrated customer service and collaboration skills
- Proficiency in managing multiple projects concurrently and delivering on-time with high quality
- Experience working with big data analysis and/or financial data
Preferred Education and Experience
- Master of Business Administration (MBA)
- Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or Certified Public Management (CPM) designation
- Startup experience in healthcare
Licensure and Certifications

The position has supervisory responsibility over personnel in the Accounting Department
Work Environment
The job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work
This is a full-time position exempt position. Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5p.m.
