Job Summary
- Eastern Washington University is currently seeking self-motivated, independent workers for Custodian 1. Custodial Services maintains a safe, sanitary and clean environment in order to enhance the learning environment on campus. Duties include sanitation of restrooms, floor and window care, general cleaning of building interiors and surrounding areas, emptying garbage and recycling and arrangement of furniture for campus events.
- The salary for this position is $37,896 – $46,632 per year.
- In addition to salary, the University offers a comprehensive benefits package including health insurance, life and disability insurance and retirement. Conditions of Employment
- Workdays and shift times may vary in response to customer needs for special event coverage and/or department needs. Management does retain the right and discretion to modify schedules, building assignments, shifts and/or days for operational purposes.
- The Custodian 1 position can be physically demanding. Successful candidates must be able to pass a pre-placement physical (EWU pays for the physical).
- Successful candidate must be able to lift up to 25 pounds on frequent basis and carry up to 50 pounds on an occasional basis.
- Position include prolonged periods standing and walking.
- Candidates must have ability to climb stairs.
- Position includes frequently reaching above shoulders and repeated bending, kneeling, pulling and pushing.
- During the course of university employment this position will be involved in the receipt of, or accountability for, university funds or other items of value; as well as the unsupervised access with the developmentally disabled, vulnerable adults or children under the age of 16. The offer of employment is contingent upon successful completion and passing of a background check prior to beginning employment.
- All new employees will comply with EWU Immunization Policy 602-02 and provide proof of immunity or vaccination to MMR before beginning work at EWU. Waivers for the immunization requirements are available for medical or sincerely held religious beliefs.

Required Qualifications
- Valid driver’s license
- Minimum age of 18.
- Physical ability to do the job.
- High School Diploma or GED
- Must have the ability to learn institutional custodial techniques and requirements.
- Must have excellent customer service skills.
- Must be a team-oriented worker with flexibility to assist fellow coworkers throughout campus.
- Must be able to work any shifts and any days. Please note that evening shift receives a pay premium.
- Must be able to read, write and understand written documents.
- Demonstrated ability to apply a responsive and flexible approach that is supportive to the needs of, including universal access, of our students, faculty, staff and the public.
Preferred Qualifications
- Knowledge of maintenance and operation of various custodial equipment preferred.
- Prior professional housekeeping or custodial experience preferred.
- Institutional or industrial custodial experience preferred.
- Able to work overtime/extended hours on occasion.
