The Role:

The Data Visualization Specialist advances data-informed decision-making by creating and maintaining interactive and meaningful data visualizations for diverse audiences including, but not limited to, internal University Advancement teams, University Partners and the Executive Leadership Team, as well as Foundation and Alumni boards. This position ensures that data is accurately represented and easily accessible for operational, strategic, and compliance purposes.

Job Duties

Report/Dashboard Creation & Management:
  • Create and maintain interactive and meaningful data visualizations for diverse audiences across the University.
  • Create and maintain all campaign and pipeline reports for the Foundation and Alumni Association.
  • Create and maintain internal University Advancement reporting leveraging established KPIs, as well as the integration of new performance metrics.
  • Create and distribute post event reports and/or dashboards
  • Ensure that data is accurately represented and visualizations are easily accessible for operational, strategic, and compliance purposes.
  • Monitor data quality by investigating anomalies and collaborating with data stewards to address inaccuracies
  • Provide timely responses to data visualization requests and questions
  • Create and maintain documentation to aid in the development of future reports and dashboards.
Simple Reports & Data Exports:
  • Provide single use reports on demand for University Advancement colleagues and University partners.
  • Assist with providing data for mailings, emails projects, or in support of informed decisions as requested.
  • Create new queries upon request and manage existing queries.
Presentation & Analysis:
  • Work closely with University Advancement leadership to provide meaningful reporting and analysis to ELT and Board members.
  • Provide historical background and context for reporting, as well as explaining assumptions, gaps, and anomalies.
  • Create and explain forecast models based on historical trends and performance.
Training & Collaboration
  • Build strong partnerships with subject matter experts and key stakeholders to ensure a shared understanding of data.
  • Facilitate training opportunities to empower end-users in navigating reports and dashboards, as well as interpreting data.
  • Build collaborative relationships with university partners and vendors to ensure comprehensive data integration and maintain reporting accuracy.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree AND 2 years of relevant work experience
  • Experience constructing engaging, informative, and interactive reports and dashboards using data visualization software (such as Tableau, Power Bl, etc.)
  • Relevant database, software, and systems management experience
  • Demonstrated commitment and ability to present data for evaluation and informed decisions
  • Demonstrated experience establishing and maintaining cross-functional partnerships
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability and/or experience working collaboratively with students and/or colleagues to foster a supportive and effective learning and work environment.
  • OR applicable combination of education and/or experience which demonstrates the ability to perform the essential functions of the position.

  • Experience working in Higher Education
  • Master's degree in related field
  • Experience working within a cloud environment
  • Demonstrated participation in programs designed to promote student success.
  • Demonstrated commitment to improving access to higher education for students through various activities.

Pay, Benefits, & Work Schedule

Salary: This position is based on the range 56 of the Washington State Classification Listing, which has a minimum annual salary of $63,252 and maximum annual salary of $84,984. In accordance with RCW 49.58.110, the above salary reflects the full salary range for this position. Individual placement within the range is based on the candidate's current experience, education, skills, and abilities related to the position.

Schedule/Appointment: Monday - Friday, 8:00am-5:00pm (1 hour lunch)

Working Conditions: Work is performed in an indoor office setting with frequent in-person interactions. It is essential to be able to remain at a desk/computer workstation for prolonged periods of time, perform extensive data entry and other computer-related tasks and create/maintain filing systems for departmental records. Some evening or weekend work and/or occasional travel may be required.
