RISE is a nonprofit organization that was established in 1980 as Aid To The Developmentally Disabled (ADD) by family members who were concerned about the physical and emotional decline of patients compelled to live in crowded institutions.
These family members believed that appropriate treatment and training in a warm, sheltered, homelike environment would enhance their physical and emotional growth. With the support, funding and licensing of New York State’s Office of People With Developmental Disabilities (OPWDD) and the Office of Mental Health (OMH), ADD came to life.
We are currently seeking Full time Day Program Specialists to work in our program located in Riverhead. These are full time Monday to Friday day positions!
Participants of this innovative program are afforded the opportunity to use and build upon their current skill set to participate in the Life of the Community. “The Day Program Without Walls” offers a choice of daily activities that the participants of the program decide upon at regular meetings. The group works on individual goals and a daily routine, even though the activities for the day vary. Our Riverhead program is located in Northville in our Sensory Gardens. This is a state of the program that offers a beautiful learning enviornment for the people we support. There is a working greenhouse and we also cultivate honey! Programming often centers around recreation as well. Activities such as fishing and outdoor activities are common. This position offers the opportunity to be creative in a very special learning environment.
