Position Summary & Description
The Department of Allied and Public Health at Indiana University of Pennsylvania (IUP) invites applications for three (3) part-time, temporary, non-tenure track Professor positions. These positions involve developing curriculum for the proposed College of Osteopathic Medicine (COM). The proposed COM is currently progressing through accreditation phases and has reached the point of developing curriculum. These positions will work closely with the Dean’s Office in the proposed COM, the APH faculty, and other associated departments at IUP.
The positions will be responsible for creating the curriculum and course objectives following the course sequencing outlined for the proposed COM with a focus on the clinical aspects related to (1) primary care practice, (2) osteopathic manipulative medicine (OMM), or (3) specialty medicine. The proposed curriculum sequencing will be used to create the course descriptions and course learning objectives.
Duties
- The successful candidate for each position will be expected to develop curriculum topics following the course sequencing outlined for the proposed COM in areas of 1) primary care practice, (2) osteopathic manipulative medicine, or (3) specialty medicine coursework with an emphasis on integrating core content focused on the respective position into clinically focused courses.
- Develop learning objectives for the proposed COM curriculum in the areas of 1) primary care practice, (2) osteopathic manipulative medicine, or (3) specialty medicine coursework with an emphasis on integrating core content focused on the respective position into clinically focused courses by linking course and programmatic objectives.
- Assist with development of syllabi, coursework learning objectives and curricula for clinical rotations by integrating OMM/OPP into each of the clinical disciplines.
- Design a progressive format of medical science presentation, consistent with the proposed curriculum sequencing.
- Design appropriate laboratory experiences for medical students in an integrated curriculum.
- Collaborate with current IUP faculty.
Work collaboratively with other temporary faculty of the proposed COM and the COM Deans to ensure that curriculum development is not duplicated and is pedagogically sound through vertical and horizontal integration.
Position Qualifications
Required General Qualifications:
- Terminal degree (DO or MD); DO preferred
- Board Certification in the respective clinical specialty.
- Current active and unrestricted medical licensure with record free of past disciplinary actions against the medical license.
- Three (3) years academic experience as (1) a faculty member at an accredited United States DO or MD medical school or (2) a faculty member in a ACGME-Accredited Graduate Medical Education program.
- Demonstrated experience in the development of medical curricula and coursework in osteopathic or allopathic medical schools.
- Documented scholarship in the respective clinical area and/or medical education
- Ability to work effectively in an inter-disciplinary environment
Required Primary Care Position Specific Qualifications:
- Maintenance of AOA or ABMS board certification in primary care discipline(s) (family medicine, pediatrics, or internal medicine) required.
- Proven experience in teaching and academic leadership in a medical education setting through teaching of in primary care discipline(s) (family medicine, pediatrics, or internal medicine) required.
Required Osteopathic Manipulative Medicine (OMM) Position Specific Qualifications:
- DO (from a COCA-accredited medical school)
- Maintenance of AOA board certification by the AOBNMM or a Certificate of Specialty Proficiency in OMM (C-SPOMM) required.
- Proven experience in teaching and academic leadership in a medical education setting through teaching of in OMM/OPP in medical education setting.
- Actively seeing patients and/or actively practicing OPP/NMM preferred
Required Specialty Medicine Position Specific Requirements:
- Maintenance of AOA or ABMS board certification in a specialty care discipline (e.g., internal medicine subspecialty fellowship; OB/GYN, Psychiatry; Emergency Medicine; Surgery; etc.).
- Proven experience in teaching and academic leadership in a medical education setting through teaching in specialty medicine discipline in medical education setting.
- Actively seeing patients and/or actively practicing specialty medicine discipline preferred
Preferred:
- Additional coursework or degrees with a focus on medical education leadership and/or curriculum pedagogy
- A substantial record of success as an educator with experience in teaching foundational concepts which are relevant to medical education. Preferred candidates shall have teaching experience in an academic setting and health delivery.
- Experience with curricular and instructional design and training or experience in educational theory and/or evaluation preferred.

- Demonstrate the ability to present the COM in an appropriate and positive fashion in public meetings, testimony and public appearances.
- Maintain professional literacy in academic field.
- Possess excellent oral and written communication skills.
