Available Schedule – Riverside, RI
We are currently hiring for a fixed weekly schedule:
- Wednesday: 3:00 PM – 12:00 AM
- Saturday: 3:00 PM – 9:00 PM
- Sunday: 8:00 AM – 1:00 PM
This position offers 22 hours per week, ideal for candidates seeking a mix of evenings and weekends in a consistent, part-time role.
About the Role
As a Direct Support Professional (DSP), you’ll provide hands-on support and care to individuals living in our 24-hour residential programs. You’ll help participants meet personal goals, build independence, and live meaningful lives—all while creating a safe, supportive, and respectful environment.
Key Responsibilities
Daily Living Support
- Assist with all Activities of Daily Living (ADLs), including hygiene, dressing, feeding, toileting, and ambulation
- Monitor health needs and support medication administration
- Respect participant autonomy—even when choices differ from your own
Community Engagement
- Facilitate socialization through peer interaction, community inclusion, and leisure activities
- Support family outings, vacations, and recreational opportunities
- Promote interpersonal skills and self-advocacy
Health & Safety
- Respond to emergencies and implement conflict resolution per training
- Maintain clean, safe environments in both homes and agency vehicles
- Conduct and document fire drills and emergency preparedness procedures
Documentation & Records
- Keep accurate participant records, including:
- Daily logs and shift notes
- Behavior and data tracking in internal systems (including Therapy)
- Medication administration records (MARs)
- Consultant and support plan documentation
- Staff and vendor logs
- Participant savings and clothing inventory logs (if assigned)
Medical & Specialized Care
- Coordinate and transport participants to medical appointments
- Report health concerns promptly and maintain communication with nursing staff
- Document and carry out specialized care as directed by the nursing team
Team Participation
- Attend and contribute to ISP meetings, team check-ins, and trainings
- Communicate clearly with team members, guardians, and other professionals (with supervisor approval)
- Provide staffing coverage during vacations, sick days, or staffing needs as directed
- Serve as a positive role model and representative of the Fogarty Center
Qualifications
- Experience supporting people with intellectual or developmental disabilities (preferred)
- High School Diploma or GED (required)
- Must be at least 18 years old
- Valid driver’s license and clean driving record
- Ability to pass fingerprint-supported national and RI background checks
- Basic computer literacy and willingness to learn internal systems
- Strong interpersonal, problem-solving, and communication skills
- Physical ability to assist with mobility and respond to emergencies
