Qualifications
- Driver's License (Preferred)
- Must be at least 18 years old.
- Must have a verifiable High School Diploma/G.E.D.
- Recent, clean TB test and health screening (Cooks Care can set up)
- First Aid/CPR certification required (Cooks Care will set up)
- Six months of prior experience providing direct care and special services to persons with developmental disabilities
- Required to complete a DSP 1 within 1 year of hired date and DSP 2 certification, within 2 year of hired date (Cooks Care will set up)
- Must pass fingerprint background check (Child Abuse Index, Criminal Record Clearance)
What We Do
Cooks Care Direct Support Professionals (DSPs) interact and support our individuals with development disabilities The DSP will assist with direct care as well as implementation of behavior plans. We provide a level of care that enhances the health, safety, dignity, and contentment of every consumer served by assisting and training individuals in the areas of personal care, communication, and social skill development.
Direct Support Professional Help residents with tasks involving activities of daily living (dressing, bathing, toileting, grooming, assistance with transfers and ambulation). Housekeeping duties including bed-making, laundry, washing dishes, sweeping, mopping, etc. Monitoring resident’s conditions and documenting behaviors and interactions daily. DSP also assist resident on outing by assisting with money management skills or just planning a day for leisure.

Training We Provide
- 35 hours Of Direct Support Professional (DSP) The Department has established a competency-based training program that is mandatory for all direct support staff (and administrators who provide direct support) working in licensed community care facilities. The Direct Support Professional (DSP) Training is based upon core competencies or skills necessary for satisfactory job performance.
- 40 hours of on-the-job training. Which will go over individual Program Plan (IPP), Client Rights, Medication assistance, Health and emergency procedure, Special Incident reporting, Client abuse identification reporting, House rules, Training methods, and communication with clients. New hires will shadow training staff and then be observed doing the task.
- Pro act train Pro-ACT is based upon a set of Principles that focus on maintaining client dignity while keeping clients and staff safe. With a focus on offering professionals the skills needed to reduce or avoid restraint, the Pro-ACT curriculum provides Train-the-Trainer programming as well as Employee In-service training and is designed to:
- Respect client rights.
- Build a non-coercive treatment environment.
- Minimize the risks associated with emergency response to assaultive behavior.
- Emphasize the role of supervision of employee behavior.
- Support continuous upgrading of skills and knowledge.
- Be free of gender bias.
- Emphasize team skills.
- Provide experience in problem solving.
