Requirements
Education Level: High School Diploma or Equivalent. Associate’s degree in a related field is preferred or an experience and training is beneficial to meet the federal qualified employee requirement.
Completion of two years of postsecondary education, or an associate’s degree (per Nebraska Rule 11 or ESSA requirements). Must have or willing to work toward gaining at least 12 hours of post-secondary education or Early Childhood training or able to complete equivalent training within the first 2 years of employment. District 145 can provide support with Early Childhood training.
Certification: Any Paraeducator who has a Bachelor’s Degree in Education from an accredited college will have an additional $1.00 added to their base pay.
Any Paraeducator who has a Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college will have an additional $0.50 added to their base pay.
Any Paraeducator who has an Associate’s Degree from an accredited college will have an additional $0.25 added to their base pay.
Official transcripts must be sent, reviewed, and approved from the Central Office before additional amounts are added to the base pay.
Essential Functions: The essential functions of the paraeducator position include:
- Regular, dependable in person attendance on the job.
- The ability to perform the identified tasks and performance responsibilities which are effective teaching and communication skills.
- The ability to perform the following physical requirements.
Early Childhood Paraprofessional Responsibilities
● Assist in implementing instructional activities that promote active learning and development, aligned with the Nebraska Early Learning Guidelines.
● Support individual and small-group instruction under the direction of the teacher, including literacy, math, play-based learning, and fine/gross motor development.
● Support children with developmental delays or disabilities by following Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) or other intervention plans in collaboration with special education staff.
● Help manage classroom routines and transitions to ensure a safe, structured, and nurturing environment.
● Assist with toileting, feeding, dressing, and other self-care needs in a respectful, supportive manner.
● Supervise children in the classroom, on the playground, and during other daily routines to ensure their health and safety.
● Prepare, organize, and maintain learning materials and classroom supplies.
● Use positive guidance strategies consistent with Nebraska's Pyramid Model practices for social-emotional development.
● Maintain confidentiality in all matters related to students and families.
● Participate in professional development and training as required by the district and Nebraska Department of Education.
