P*r*im*ary Purpose:*

The Educational Diagnostician will be responsible for conducting thorough evaluations that determine a special education disability condition, an educational need for specialized instruction through special education, and appropriate recommendations that translate to positive learning outcomes for the student. The incumbent will coordinate ARD/IEP meetings and ensure the appropriate implementation of the individual education plan. Maintain compliance with all federal / state/ local timelines, individual records, state performance plan indicators 11 & 12, and discipline procedures Participate in the evaluation, determination of eligibility, planning, and implementation of special education supports. Implement the special education assessment process. Assess the educational, learning styles, and program needs of students referred to special education services. Provide diagnostic information and work cooperatively with instructional personnel to provide the most appropriate programs for students with disabilities. Q*ualifications: Education*

Education Certification:

· Master’s degree (Required)

· Valid Texas teaching certificate

· Valid Texas Educational Diagnostician certificate or eligible for temporary certificate required

Special Knowledge/Skills:

· Knowledge of diagnostic procedures, education of special education students, human
development, and learning theories

· Knowledge of Admission, Review, and Dismissal (ARD) Committee process

· Knowledge of Individual Education Plan (IEP) process

· Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills

· Working knowledge of evaluation process, including cross battery assessment, and
instructional strategies and accommodations

· Proficient computer skills

· Bilingual (Preferred)

· Ability to work cooperative with campus staff and itinerant staff

E*x*perience:

· Three years teaching experience required

Major Responsibilities Duties and Assessment

1. Receive student referrals and implement the assessment and evaluation process.

2. Select and administer formal and informal assessments to determine student eligibility for special education services according to federal and Texas Education Agency regulations.

3. Plan and provide services that are appropriate and consistent with Full Individual Evaluations (FIE).

4. Collect and organize relevant assessment data from student’s cumulative folder, classroom teachers(s), principal, support staff, parents, and outside resource people.

5. Conduct classroom observation and personal interviews.

6. Facilitate in the Admission, Review, and Dismissal (ARD) Committee and assist with interpretation of assessment data, appropriate placement, and development of Individual Education Plans (IEP) for students according to district procedures.

7. Collaborate with the multidisciplinary team when appropriate to determine eligibility.

8. Collaborate with campus, special education, and district staff to verify accuracy of PEIMS data in conjunction with IEP services.

9. Interpret special education laws; compile and interpret students’ evaluation results using multiple sources of data, along with information from teachers and parents, to diagnose special education disability conditions and to help assess eligibility/need for special services.

C*onsultation*

10. Provide staff development training in assigned schools to assist school personnel in identification and understanding of students with disabilities.

11. Assist classroom teachers with implementation of IEP.

12. Consult parents concerning the educational needs of students and interpretation of assessment data.

13. Consult parents, teachers, administrators, and other relevant individuals to enhance their work with students.

P*rogram Management*

14. Develop and maintain effective individual and group relationships with students and parents.

15. Assist in the selection of assessment materials and equipment.

16. Comply with and meet federal and state mandates and local board policy.

17. Develop and coordinate a continuing evaluation of the assessment program and make changes based on findings.

18. Manage and maintain accurate individual special education records (i.e. ARD/IEP meetings, FIEs, parent/guardian communication, notifications, informed consent).

19. Compile, maintain, and file all physical and computerized reports, records, and other documents required.

20. Comply with policies established by federal and state law, State Board of Education rule, and local board policy in the areas of assessment, placement, and planning for special education services.

21. Comply with all district and local campus routines and regulations.

22. Participate in professional development activities to improve skills related to job assignment.

C*ommunication*

23. Maintain a positive and effective relationship with supervisors.

24. Develop collaborative relationships with assessment personnel, families, educators, administrators, outside agencies, and related service personnel.

25. Serve as a resource to campus staff in ensuring appropriate implementation of all special education and related services.

26. Effectively communicate with colleagues, students, and parents.

27. Be available by phone, email, or video conferencing to confer with district personnel, students, and/or parents.
