Job Description:
Provide environmental, health and safety (EHS) leadership and technical expertise for the Grain Craft plant. Accountable for the execution of all EHS programs and plans that reinforce our safety-first culture by continuously improving our ability to prevent serious injuries, fatalities, environmental incidents, and ensuring compliance with applicable EHS regulations. Position reports to the plant manager.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
Implement, maintain and update Grain Craft EHS standards and programs to promote a Best-in-Class EHS program with a focus on eliminating serious injuries & fatalities (SIF), high potential exposures (HiPo) (e.g. confined spaces, hot tap, X-ray, electrical safety, mobile equipment, etc.), and environmental incidents and non-compliance events.
- Provide technical EHS support and professional expertise to the plant leadership team and workforce.
- Coach, counsel, and engage all employees on how to lead with safety and promote a safety-first culture.
- Implement Grain Craft’s Global EHS Management Systems to assess job hazards and risks and help protect employees, contractors, and visitors from workplace injuries/illnesses, and minimize EHS risks and impacts.
- Maintain site EHS documentation.
- Manage environmental and EHS policies, procedures and programs to ensure compliance with Grain Craft’s requirements, and applicable local, federal rules and regulations.
- Work with plant team and stakeholders to address and improve root causes and performance gaps that could result in serious injury or environmental incidents.
- Maintain the site EHS training matrix and ensure that all personnel are properly trained in EHS-related topics.
- Partner with site leadership to ensure contractor safety and orientation procedures are enforced.
- Participate in incident investigations and support root cause analysis to prevent reoccurrence.
- Provide emergency response leadership, training, and oversight.
- Participate in plant capital project reviews to ensure EHS engineering controls are implemented.
- Lead or support required site audits and assessments and ensure corrective actions are completed.
- Support Grain Craft’s sustainability initiatives including waste minimization and reduction efforts. Serve as a liaison with environmental and safety regulatory agencies, where appropriate.
- Support and monitor the site’s environmental compliance efforts (air, water, and waste). Ensure that all required permits are maintained, and reports are submitted in a timely manner.
- Maintain site compliance with Process Safety Management (PSM) and Risk Management Plan (RMP) programs as applicable.
- Serve as the EHS point of contact and subject matter expert.
- Lead and support local EHS team as assigned.
- Lead and support health and safety committee(s) and work closely with corporate safety and environmental teams.
- Ensures compliance with all applicable environmental regulations and permitting
- All other duties as assigned
Qualifications
Required:
· Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Safety, Environmental/Health Science, Engineering, or closely related required, or equivalent work experience required.
· Minimum 5 years of EHS experience required.
· Demonstrated knowledge and EHS improvement in SIF potential incidents (Serious Injury, Fatality) and environmental performance is required.
· Experience with environmental compliance, OSHA standards, and other EHS regulations from a manufacturing or industrial work environment.
· Experience with training program design and implementation.
· Strong leadership, problem solving, and communication skills.
· Demonstrated proficiency in the use of personal computers and related business software such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.
Preferred:
- Previous experience working in a food manufacturing facility is a plus
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENT:
- Physically able to work outside, climb ladders and lift 100 lbs., tolerate dust and high or low temperature.
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds regularly
- Frequent standing, walking, bending, squatting, and kneeling
- Comfortable working at heights and on ladders or scaffolding
- Manual dexterity and fine motor skills for operating tools and machinery
- Tolerance for noisy, dusty, or hot/cold environments
- Ability to wear required PPE such as safety glasses, gloves, ear protection, and respirators
- Visual acuity and hearing sufficient to identify mechanical or safety issues
