AVAILABLE POSITION: Full-time School Psychologist (25/26)

Position Summary:

The School Psychologist provides services as an employee of the district and is part of a diverse team. The school psychologist is responsible for providing and/or coordinating the provision of psychological test services for certification of disabilities and/or exceptionalities for students under the State of TN eligibility guidelines referred for possible special education placement.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Master's degree
  • Active/Current Tennessee Licensure for School Psychology
  • Observe all laws, regulations and policies of the State Board and school system in providing psychologist services
  • Ability to effectively elicit/provide information to and from appropriate individuals (including, but not limited to, supervisors, co-workers, clients) via strong communication skills; proficiency in the English language may be required
  • Computer proficiency required
  • Knowledge of the principles and practices of psychological assessment and determination of educational disabilities, learning theory, child development, and counseling techniques as applied to children and adolescents in the school environment.
  • Knowledge of school system organization and operation.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with and to gain the confidence and cooperation of students, parents, the school staff, and community representatives.
  • Demonstrate the ability to effectively work with diverse populations.
  • Completion of the required online compliance training modules.
  • Demonstrate a record of good attendance and punctuality.
  • Demonstrate a strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrate an ability to speak clearly and concisely both in oral and written communication.
  • Must meet criminal history background requirements (requires FBI Fingerprint and background check).

Essential Job Functions:

  • Administer and coordinate the administration of psychological test batteries for children referred to special education including appropriate documentation and filing of timely, accurate reports of same.

  • Assist parents and teachers in interpreting test results and translating results into practical learning and behavior problems
  • Assist appropriate staff and parents in reviewing, understanding and appropriately applying assessment reports received from other systems or agencies.
  • Participate in IEP team meetings and re-evaluation meetings to assist the IEP team in determining eligibility.
  • Interact with co-workers, administration, students, parents, and the community in a positive, supportive, and cooperative ways.
  • Conducts pre-referral consultation/intervention, including but not limited to:
  • Observing the student(s)
  • Serving an assessment specialist who may do any or all of the following:
    • Screen at-risk children for intervention
    • Monitor progress during intervention
    • Assess instructional strategies
  • Consults with teachers to add instructional strategies/interventions
  • Monitors response to curriculum modification
  • Serves as an instructional intervention specialist who plans intervention and individual education
  • Consults individually, or in groups, with patients and/or parents or other personnel on matters relating to the education and mental health of the patients to ensure the development and provision of the most appropriate education program
  • Maintains records as prescribed by the Director of Special Education.
  • Reviews research in current best practice and presents recommendations to client for review and potential implementation as requested, including staff training programs on the basis of all necessary curriculum components and implements or supervises the implementation of intervention
  • Participates in on-going training/in-service related job duties
  • Consults with teachers and other team members on an ongoing basis
  • Serves as a technical assistant for the support of implementation of RTI in the assigned schools (if applicable)
  • Participates in the extended IEP team meetings and other such procedures as necessary, including manifestation determination review meetings
  • As part of the team, determines the nature of a child's problems through a full case study evaluation. When necessary, the Psychologist participates in:
    • Parent conferences
    • Classroom observations
    • Consultations with local agencies
    • Extended IEP team meetings
    • Case follow-ups
    • Consultations with teachers, the other diagnosticians assigned to the case, supervisors, and social workers
  • Participates in other areas based on the needs of students and programs. These may include teacher in-service, counseling, screening of students (preschool, etc), parent groups, supervision of interns, research of ongoing programs, and development of new programs
  • Performs other duties as assigned.


PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • This job may require lifting of objects that exceed 50 lbs., with frequent lifting and/or carrying of objects weighing up to 25 lbs
  • Adaptability to performing a variety of duties, often changing from one task to another of a different nature without loss of efficiency or composure
  • Adaptability to accepting responsibility for the direction, control, or planning of an activity
