Under the general direction of the Senior Environmental Scientist (Supervisor), the incumbent will function as an Environmental Scientist in the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA) Unit in the California Geologic Energy Management Division (CalGEM), Headquarters Office in the Department of Conservation (DOC). The incumbent will be responsible for complying with CEQA for CalGEM projects. This includes working independently, as a team member, and depending on the level of experience, as a lead to gather data on the environment and natural resource management issues, perform environmental analysis, research, and conduct investigations. The incumbent will work in close coordination with internal and external stakeholders in the preparation of environmental documents, required notices, and any additional documentation as required by CEQA. The incumbent must be able to communicate in a professional manner with the diverse community of California, colleagues, agency representatives, and other stakeholders, and present at internal and external meetings.

Working Conditions

This position is located in Sacramento and is eligible for a hybrid telework schedule, with employees required to work in-person at 715 P Street, MS 1803, Sacramento, CA 95814. At least three days of remote work and up to two days of in-office work per week is the available hybrid telework schedule for this position. Effective July 1, 2025 all employees will be required to be in-office at least 4 days per week and may be eligible to telework one day per week. Alternative work locations will not be considered. Candidates who reside outside of the State of California may be admitted to the job interview but must show proof of residence in California prior to being eligible for appointment.
