The Equal Opportunity Office is looking for a compassionate, detail-oriented consultant to join our team! The salary listed for this job includes the Legislative approved three percent general wage increase for state employees effective as of July 1, 2025.

Duties

As an Equal Opportunity Consultant, you’ll help process discrimination complaints from intake through investigation, maintain detailed logs and records, and draft interview questions and reports. You’ll assist with compliance monitoring of state workforce programs, review documentation, track issues, and help prepare on-site review findings. You’ll also advise managers on equal opportunity (EO) policies, coordinate training sessions, and stay current on nondiscrimination rules.

Some of what you will do:

  • Receive discrimination complaints by employees against the agency, log complaints, schedule investigation meetings, draft interview questions and reports, participate in interviews and take notes, maintain electronic and paper records. Travel statewide to participate in investigations.
  • Gather information and assist with responding to discrimination complaints filed with external enforcement agencies, on behalf of the State-Level EO Officer.
  • Consult with and advise managers on equal opportunity processes and procedures.
  • Stay current on and maintain good understanding of nondiscrimination and Human Resource policies and procedures.
  • Provide EO and nondiscrimination technical assistance and training assistance for ESD managers, supervisors and staff.

Qualifications

Required:
Four years of the required experience below.
AND
One (1) year of Equal Opportunity; Diversity, Equity and Inclusion; and/or Human Resources experience.
OR
A Bachelor’s degree with focus on civil rights, human resources, social or organizational behavioral sciences, or related field.
AND
One (1) year of Equal Opportunity; Diversity, Equity and Inclusion; and/or Human Resources experience.

Experience includes:

  • Ability to write effectively; composing professional emails, letters, investigation documents, and reports with clarity, accuracy, and appropriate tone.
  • Ability to thoroughly review files and documents for monitoring and investigations; skilled in accurately logging and tracking sensitive information and producing precise reports.
  • Ability to communicate and collaborate interpersonally to engage effectively with customers, partners, employees, and managers on sensitive and confidential matters.
  • Skill in using Microsoft Office Suite; proficient in Microsoft Word for document creation, Excel for data management and analysis, and Outlook for email communication and calendar coordination.


Preferred/Desired Qualifications:

  • Understanding of state and federal laws and regulations pertaining to nondiscrimination and equal opportunity.
  • Experience conducting workplace investigations.
  • Experience providing training to adult learners.

Special Requirements/Conditions of Employment:

  • Must be able to pass an Unemployment Insurance (UI) & Paid Family and Medical Leave (PFML) claim and fraud check.
  • Must be able to travel to assist with investigations. On average, travel is expected once monthly and may include overnight stays when necessary.
