Facility Electrical Technician
POSITION SUMMARY
Support all aspects of facilities maintenance for buildings and grounds with a focus on electrical systems. This includes all auxiliary equipment to support operations for life safety systems, production, general building, compressed air, cooling towers, HVAC systems, lighting, restrooms, water systems, grounds maintenance, etc.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Perform all applicable maintenance duties, including but not limited to mechanical and electrical troubleshooting and inspection of all facility equipment.
- Assemble, install, replace, modify, adjust and maintain all facility equipment as needed.
- Assemble, evaluate, test, and maintain electrical or electronic wiring, equipment, appliances, and apparatus.
- Identify electrical problems using specialized tools such as voltmeters, cable testers, thermal scanners, and ammeters.
- Read and interpret electrical and electronic circuit blueprints, diagrams, and schematics.
- Execute facility maintenance plans and assignments to ensure the facility is operating at acceptable levels.
- Assist in planning and executing facility improvement projects as needed.
- Perform and complete all Carolina Canners preventative and reactive maintenance programs.
- Analyze all available mechanical data to detect, diagnose and correct machine errors, defects and malfunctions.
- Install wiring, outlets and controls.
- Wire transformer and circuit breaker panels to ensure they are up to code.
- Repair and replace wiring and equipment using hand and power tools such as screwdrivers, saws, drills, wire strippers, conduit benders and pipe threaders.
- Order electrical supplies and equipment.
- Maintain knowledge of processes and equipment.
- Maintain records of service cycles and other maintenance activities conducted.
- Direct and train co-employees to install, maintain, and repair wiring systems.
- Advise management on continued use of unsuitable equipment, appliances, and apparatus.
- Work with outside contractors.
- Efficiently manage time and complete all tasks assigned by supervisor.
- Effectively communicate with supervisors and co-employees concerning all aspects of the maintenance function.
- Ensure that the product and/or supplies are being handled in a sanitary method consistent with GMP’s and properly packaged.
- Maintain clean work area through good housekeeping practices.
- Work well with others in a team-orientated atmosphere.
- Other related duties as assigned.
REQUIREMENTS
- 18 years or older
- High school diploma, GED or equivalent
- Vocational school graduate preferred but comparable skills and experience also considered
- 5 years of electrical technician experience; OR any equivalent combination of experience and/or education from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved
- Ability to operate a forklift (if position requires)
- Must be able to read, write, and perform basic math
- Comprehensive understanding of single and three phase power
- Strong aptitude of DC and low voltage A/C control circuits
- Compliance with NFPA70E for electrical safety
- Must possess thorough understanding of all facility equipment used in manufacturing
- Must possess general knowledge of tools and gauges, repair and maintenance, general mechanical and electrical aptitude, knowledge of the HVAC theory and troubleshooting, plumbing and light carpentry.
- Experience operating hand and power tools, VOMs, and fault-testing equipment
- Experience with maintaining boilers, chillers and cooling towers is a plus
- Ability to pass an electrical comprehension examination

PHYSICAL DEMANDS/WORK ENVIRONMENT
- Must be physically and mentally able to successfully perform the essential elements of the job with or without reasonable accommodation.

- Frequently required to stand, walk, and sit.
- Vision requirements to do this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
- Must be able to use hands and arms in handling, installing, positioning, moving, and manipulating materials and parts.
- Must be able to safely lift up to 50 pounds on a periodic basis.
- Must be able to perform physical activities that require considerable use of your arms and legs and moving your whole body, such as climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, stooping and handling of various types of materials and parts.
- Must be able to climb onto and off of machinery throughout the shift (8-10 hours per day).
- Bending and stooping is routine during the work shift.
- Must be able to use and handle all hand and electrical repair and testing tools and equipment.
