These positions are procured through the State of Michigan Set Aside Program to advance the employment of people with disabilities. Purpose or General Objective: Perform all housekeeping responsibilities as outlined per the contract (trash control, dusting, vacuuming, mopping sanitizing and disinfecting sinks/stools, wiping walls and doors, cleaning glass, polishing sinks/fixtures, etc. strip/make beds, cleaning carpeting, etc.)
Essential Duties:
- Follow all policies and procedures outlined by GICMH including all related to safety.
- Perform housekeeping services per contract direction as scheduled by supervisor. (i.e. trash control, dusting, vacuuming, mopping sanitizing and disinfecting sinks-stools, wiping walls and doors, cleaning glass, polishing sinks-fixtures, etc., strip/making beds, cleaning carpeting).
- Report deviations from schedule to supervisor and reason for deviation.
- Operation of equipment/tools associated with housekeeping services.
- Request order of supplies as needed within sufficient time to ensure adequate supply.
- Maintain order and cleanliness of storage areas.
- Immediately notify supervisor of any concerns regarding safety or damage to premises.
- Report to supervisor as requested or required.
- Must be available for flexible hours with overtime – 1st and 2nd shift including weekends and holidays.
- Attend job-related and safety training as required
Additional Duties:
- Perform other related duties and assignments as required or directed by supervisor.
Results Expected:
- Effectively operate equipment/tools used in housekeeping and
- Maintain proper custodial supplies per requests to supervisor.
Positions Qualifications:
- Must be able to obtain/maintain background and reference checks in compliance with contract and Navigations requirements. Felony and other convictions that restrict hiring under government guidelines apply to this position.
- Knowledge of tools/equipment commonly used in the performance of all housekeeping duties (i.e. Carpet cleaning equipment, hand tools, mops, brooms, sweepers).
- May be required to meet disability qualifications per AbilityOne guidelines.
Physical Requirements/Working Conditions:
- Must be able to lift up to 35 pounds (upwards to 35 pounds assisted), twist, bend, reach, stand, climb stairs and ladder, extended walking.

- Exposure to chemicals normally used in the performance of duties related to all aspects of housekeeping services and may include exposure to body fluids and blood contamination.
Navigations, Incorporated was formed in 1991 to work with the AbilityOne program partnering with SourceAmerica to assist non-profit organizations, such as Goodwill Industries of Central Michigan’s Heartland, Inc. This allows us to obtain federal contracts designed to provide employment opportunities and job training for individuals with disabilities with the ultimate goal of placing them in competitive employment. Navigations contracts with General Services Administration to provide janitorial, grounds keeping and snow removal services at the Hart, Dole, Inouye Federal Center.
Navigations also has a housekeeping set-aside contract with the State of Michigan for work at the Fort Custer Educational Center located on the Fort Custer military base, which provides a training program for individuals with disabilities similar to our federal contract.
