FWS Student Assistant
The College of Medicine Office of Research is seeking a Federal Work Study Student Assistant to be part of the NeuroEnclave research project to assist with digital pathology. In this role, you will assist with the digitization of histological slides by operating advanced slide scanning equipment. Responsibilities include preparing and loading slides, initiating scans, and ensuring digital files are properly saved and organized. While the work is procedural, it's critical for transforming physical samples into digital assets used in neuroscience research. About This Role:
- Prepare and load histological slides into the digital slide scanner
- Operate slide scanning equipment according to established protocols
- Initiate and monitor the scanning process to ensure high-quality digital output
- Save, label, and organize scanned image files accurately and consistently
- Maintain detailed records of scanned slides and associated data
- Perform routine equipment checks and notify supervisor of any technical issues
- Follow all lab safety and data handling procedures
- Support the NeuroEnclave research team by ensuring timely digitization of physical samples
$15 per hour
This position is open to all students who are eligible to work on campus and will be employed through Federal Work-Study (FWS) and must maintain a minimum 2.0 grade point average. Registered students are employed on a part-time bases, up to 20 hours per week. A Federal Work-Study permit or award letter for the Summer 2025 semester is required and must be uploaded electronically to be considered for this position.
Ideal candidate will possess:
- Interest in neuroscience, biomedical research, or digital pathology
- Strong attention to detail and ability to follow precise procedures
- Basic familiarity with laboratory or imaging equipment
- Comfort working with computers and file management systems
