Verdesian Life Sciences seeks an individual to fill the role of Fermentation Scientist. This role will play a key role in designing and executing experiments that enhance existing fermentation processes and drive the development of new fermentation-based products for our agricultural portfolio. This position will work hands-on with bacteria, yeast, and fungi to optimize metabolite production and interpret complex metabolomic data to ensure maximum bioactivity and product performance. The Fermentation Scientist will collaborate closely with our Production, Operations, and R&D teams to implement cutting-edge manufacturing methods and novel fermentation technologies. With a strong focus on continuous improvement, you'll also lead initiatives to elevate the quality and efficiency of our processes and products. Travel requirements for this role are estimated to be 5-10%.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design and execute experiments to develop or improve fermentation processes.
- Work with Production and Operations to implement new processes, including scale-up and pilot batches on a large scale.
- Perform metabolite analyses on existing and new fermentation products, identifying key metabolites for enrichment.
- Adhere to world class safety standards in the lab and within the company as a whole.
- Document results and author detailed scientific studies and presentations conveying results to both scientists and non-scientists.
- Manage and build out the Fermentation lab, including selecting and overseeing purchasing of capital scale purchases of equipment.
- Evaluating competing technologies and providing input and guidance on future product development strategies.
Criteria:
- Proven experience in culturing microorganisms, particularly bacterial bacillus strains.
- Extensive knowledge of microbiology and a high level of understanding of fermentation control methodology and terminology.
- Proficiency in the Microsoft Office software suite and at least one advanced statistical analysis software package.
- Demonstrated ability to operate and execute projects independently, without direct supervision.

Experience
Required- 4 year(s): Minimum experience in related disciplines such as fermentation, biosystems engineering, chemical engineering, or biotechnology. Experience operating fermentation vessels ranging from small scale (250 ml) to large lab scale reactors (100L).

Required- PHD or better in Microbiology or related field
