Financial Analyst
The Financial Analyst will work closely with the direct finance/accounting team as well as senior leaders and
department heads outside of finance and be responsible for preparing quantitative and qualitative analyses to support
the strategic objectives of the University. This position will report to the Director of Financial Planning and Analysis,
focusing on financial modeling responsibilities and assisting with budgeting, forecasting, and other ad hoc tasks.
Requirements
- Analyze financial and operational data to identify trends, assess risks, and uncover opportunities for performance improvement and cost optimization.
- Develop and maintain financial models and forecasts to support budgeting, scenario planning, and strategic decision-making across the university.
- Prepare dashboards, reports, and executive summaries that deliver actionable insights and highlight key financial and operational metrics for leadership.
- Partner with department heads and institutional leaders to gather inputs, understand key drivers, and support resource planning and new initiatives.
- Contribute to monthly and annual close processes, including data validation (with a focus on continuous improvement), variance analysis, and integration of actuals into planning cycles.
- Enhance FP&A systems and tools by collaborating with Accounting, BI, and IT on automation, reporting infrastructure, and data accuracy.
- Support the development of financial frameworks, including profitability models and resource allocation methodologies.
- Participate in cross-functional projects and ad hoc analyses to support institutional initiatives and strategic priorities.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Economics, or a quantitative STEM field (e.g., Data Science, Statistics, Engineering).
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in financial analysis, budgeting, forecasting, or strategic planning.
- Advanced Excel skills, with demonstrated ability to extract, clean, and analyze large datasets; experience building structured, scalable models to support planning and reporting.
- Strong analytical capabilities, with hands-on experience in financial modeling, reporting, and budgeting processes.
- Basic understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
- Detail-oriented with the ability to understand the broader strategic context; comfortable working with incomplete data to develop informed assumptions.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to engage director-level stakeholders and build strong cross-functional relationships.
- Demonstrates accountability, integrity, and a continuous improvement mindset; committed to data accuracy, operational excellence, and ongoing professional growth.
Preferred qualifications for this position:
- Experience with financial planning and budgeting platforms (e.g., Planful, Anaplan, Workday Adaptive Planning, or similar tools).
- Experience designing dashboards, data visualizations using tools like Power BI, Tableau, or similar.
- Experience developing financial methodologies and frameworks, including profitability models, forecasting approaches, or resource allocation tools.
- Ability to train and support non-finance stakeholders in budgeting, forecasting, and interpreting financial reports.
- Exposure to process improvement, automation, or system implementation within FP&A functions.
