WHAT WE CAN ACHIEVE TOGETHER
The Financial Specialist II provides highly specialized finance/accounting-related services to a department or business unit. They provide specialized services in financial management and reporting; accounting; grants administration, management, and reporting; or similar financial activities for a department or business unit. They have a high level of expertise in their area(s) of specialization. The position administers and maintains finance/accounting activities in accordance with TNC policies and procedures and best practices in financial management. The Financial Specialist II provides assistance to staff in their specialty area. They respond to moderately complex employee/management questions and problems based on advanced knowledge of the subject area.

We’re looking for someone who is passionate, collaborative and a motivated problem-solver. Our team in Hawaiʻi and Palmyra is dedicated to a collaborative and inclusive conservation approach. Vital skills for this position include:
- Lead the development of annual budgets and forecasts for single and multi-year periods, ensuring timely upload to TNC’s financial systems.
- Prepare and present monthly financial summaries to conservation teams, recommending corrective actions as needed.
- Provide financial information and modelling for reporting to governance, management, and donors.
- Train staff in financial literacy and monitor controls to ensure compliance with TNC’s policies and procedures, State of Hawaiʻi local regulations, and financial standards.
- Design and refine processes and templates to improve financial accuracy, reporting, and decision-making.
- Coordinate audit preparation and deliver ad hoc financial reports as requested.
- Collaborate across teams and regions, exercising sound judgment and maintaining confidentiality.
- Work closely with key stakeholders including TNC’s wider networks across the globe.
- Ability to provide cover for the Sr. Grants & Finance Analyst when/if required.
- Ability to handle confidential and highly sensitive information.
- This is a hands-on job on the island of Oahu, currently with one direct report.
- This position will be required to work from the Honolulu Office twice per week.

WHAT YOU'LL BRING
- Bachelor's Degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration or related field and 3 years' related experience or equivalent combination.
- Experience addressing accounting/financial issues and analysis to ensure resolution and/or compliance.
- Experience using accounting and financial reporting systems to report to organization/companywide level.
- Experience taking technical financial data, and report/explain it in straightforward terms to Managers and Executives.
- Technical experience with spreadsheet programs, general ledger reports and financial management tools.
- Multi-lingual skills and/or multi-cultural experience appreciated.
- Ability to manipulate, analyze and interpret data. Advanced expertise in Microsoft Excel.
- Strong organizational skills.
- Accuracy, attention to detail and the ability to multi-task.
- Non-profit accounting experience.
- May require technical expertise on complex accounting/financial issues.
SALARY INFORMATION
The starting pay range for a candidate selected for this position is generally within the range of $70,500 - $75,450 for annual base salary. Where a successful candidate’s actual pay will fall within this range will be based on a variety of factors, including, for example, the candidate's location, qualifications, specific skills, and experience. Your geographic location will be confirmed during the recruitment.
