The Role:
The primary responsibility of this role is to lead student employees in the safe operation of the CWU aviation flight line. This includes a variety of tasks to ensure the readiness and maintenance of aircraft. Key duties involve assisting with de-icing and pre-heating aircraft, cleaning aircraft in preparation for flights, fueling aircraft, and checking and maintaining oil levels and tire pressure. The role also includes positioning aircraft using a tug to various locations such as fuel pits, maintenance facilities, and tie-down areas, and securing aircraft after repositioning.
Additionally, the position requires assisting aircraft mechanics as directed and performing related duties as needed. A significant part of the role involves conducting training for student employees on safety and emergency operations, tug operation, hangar door operation, de-icing, winter weather protocols, and other department-specific training.

Job Duties
- Leads student employees in the safe operation of the CWU aviation flight line.
- Assists with de-icing and pre-heating aircraft
- Cleans aircraft in preparation for flights, including cleaning of windscreens, emptying trash, checking and replenishing aircraft supplies in cargo area, and washing aircraft
- Fuels aircraft
- Checks and maintains oil level of aircraft
- Checks and maintains tire pressure of aircraft
- Positions aircraft using a tug, as directed|
- To/from fuel pits
- To/from maintenance facility
- To/from tie down area
- Secures aircraft in tie down areas after repositioning
- Assists aircraft mechanics as directed
- Ensure the Line Service Handbook is regularly reviewed, updated, and maintained for accuracy and relevance.
- Take ownership of writing, editing, and updating procedures and protocols outlined in the Line Service Handbook.
- Conduct training sessions in accordance with the Emergency Response Plan and Line Service Handbook to ensure team readiness and compliance.
- Promote effective communication and coordination of all flight activities between dispatch and line service teams.
- Assign and check work and provides training. May provide feedback to supervisor to assist with work assignments and job performance.
- Conducts training for student employees including; safety and emergency operations, tug operation, hanger door operation, de-icing and winter weather protocols, and other associated department training.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
- Understanding of workplace safety standards, readiness and maintenance required for aircraft preparations for flight
- Commitment to following safety procedures and protocols
- Experience, training or demonstrating the ability to use Excel, Word, e-mail and similar applications to produce written correspondence, create spreadsheets, and manage e-mail and tasks.
- Excellent communication, problem-solving, time-management, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to effectively handle stressful or adverse situations.
- Ability to effectively organize multiple assignments while maintaining accuracy and timeliness.
- Experience demonstrating the ability to take initiative to accomplish tasks, independently prioritize work, pay attention to details, complete work in a timely manner, and adjust tasks as circumstances dictate.
- Must be at least 18 years old and have a valid driver's license with a clean driving record
- Willingness to work early mornings, nights, weekends, and holidays and work variable shifts based on flight schedules
- Demonstrated ability and/or experience working collaboratively with students and/or colleagues to foster a supportive and effective learning and work environment.
- OR applicable combination of education and/or experience which demonstrates the ability to perform the essential functions of the position.

Pay, Benefits, & Work Schedule
Salary: This position is based on the range 39 of the Washington State Classification Listing, which has a minimum annual salary of $41,940 and maximum annual salary of $55,836. In accordance with RCW 49.58.110, the above salary reflects the full salary range for this position. Individual placement within the range is based on the candidate's current experience, education, skills, and abilities related to the position.
Schedule/Appointment: Monday - Friday, 8:00am-5:00pm (1 hour lunch)
Working Conditions: This position may work indoors and outdoors, at times in hot/cold/noisy/dirty/wet/confined areas such as mechanical rooms, manholes and excavations, and may need to physically access work areas with the equipment and tools necessary for completion of the job. This often requires standing/crawling/bending/walking/climbing while carrying/pulling/pushing/lifting associated with equipment or tools. Requires the ability to lift up to 70lbs repeatedly. Occasional overtime is required, and shift work may be required. May need to drive a service vehicle in congested areas.
