POSITION SUMMARY:

This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit, charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. Under the direction and supervision of the Childcare Director, the Floater provides flexible support across different classrooms in a childcare facility as needed. This position helps ensure that children receive quality care and education while maintaining a safe and nurturing environment. The Floater will assist with various age groups and classrooms, filling in for teachers during breaks, absences, or increased child-to-staff ratios. The Floater plays a critical role in maintaining the consistency of care and supporting the day-to-day operations of the childcare facility.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

1. Classroom Support:

a. Assist Lead and Assistant Teachers in in various classrooms based on the needs of the facility.

b. Help set up and implement daily lesson plans, activities, and routines, ensuring that they are developmentally appropriate and engaging for children..

2. Child Supervision:

a. Provide direct supervision and care for children in different classrooms, ensuring their safety and well-being at all times.

b. Maintain a safe, clean, and organized environment conducive to learning and play.

3. Behavioral Guidance:

a. Implement positive behavioral guidance strategies and support children in managing emotions and interactions.

b. Encourage positive social behaviors and assist with conflict resolution among children.

4. Health & Hygiene:

a. Assist children with personal hygiene needs, including handwashing, diapering, and bathroom routines

b. Ensure that the classroom is clean and all health and safety standards are met.

5. Daily Routines:

a. Assist children during daily routines such as meal times, naps, playtime, and transitions between activities.

b. Help ensure that each child’s physical, social, and emotional needs are met.

6. Emergency & Break Coverage:

a. Provide temporary coverage for teachers during breaks, lunch, or planned absences. Fill in as needed for classrooms to maintain staffing ratios and ensure adequate supervision at all times.

7. Communication with Families:

a. Communicate with families about their child’s needs, daily activities, and behavior as directed by the Lead Teacher.

b. Build and maintain positive relationships with parents

8. Documentation & Reporting:

a. Help complete required documentation such as attendance records, incident reports, and other forms as needed.

b. Ensure all paperwork is filled out accurately and promptly

9. Professional Development:

a. Participate in required in-service training, workshops, and meetings as directed by the facility and in accordance with North Carolina licensing regulations.

b. Keep current on CPR and First Aid certifications

10. Other related duties as assigned by supervisor or other senior leadership staff

QUALIFICATIONS:

1. Education:

a. High school diploma or equivalent required.

b. An Associate’s Degree in Early Childhood Education (ECE), Child Development, or a related field is preferred.

c. Must meet the North Carolina Assistant Teacher qualifications as per state regulations.

2. Experience:

a. Experience working in a licensed child care facility or early childhood setting is preferred, but not required.

b. Experience working with children ages [specify age range, e.g., infants, toddlers, preschoolers] is beneficial.

3. Certifications:

a. Required: CPR and First Aid certifications (or obtain within 60 days of employment)

b. Completion of required in-service training as outlined by North Carolina child care regulations.

4. Skills:

a. Strong understanding of child development and early childhood education principles.

b. Ability to work independently and collaboratively with various teams.

c. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact professionally with staff, children, and families.

d. Flexibility and adaptability to work across various classrooms and age groups.

e. Compassionate, patient, and attentive to the needs of young children.

· The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

Job Type: Part-time

Pay: $12.00 - $15.00 per hour

Expected hours: 12 – 24 per week
