Job Summary:

The Food Preparation Worker is responsible for assisting in basic food preparation tasks such as chopping vegetables, cutting meat, preparing sauces, and ensuring all ingredients are ready for cooking. They help maintain cleanliness in the kitchen, adhere to food safety guidelines, and assist the cooking staff as needed.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Ingredient Preparation: Wash, peel, chop, and slice vegetables, fruits, and other food items.
  • Food Portioning: Measure and weigh ingredients to ensure consistent portions.
  • Basic Cooking: Perform simple cooking tasks like boiling, steaming, and grilling under supervision.
  • Food Handling: Prepare meats, poultry, and seafood for cooking (cutting, trimming, etc.).
  • Kitchen Maintenance: Keep workstations clean and organized. Clean kitchen equipment, utensils, and dishes.
  • Food Safety & Hygiene: Follow all health and safety regulations, ensuring proper storage and disposal of food.
  • Stock Management: Assist in stocking and organizing ingredients and supplies.
  • Assisting Cooks & Chefs: Provide help during busy service times by replenishing supplies or assisting with tasks as directed by chefs or kitchen supervisors.

Required Skills:

  • Basic Kitchen Knowledge: Familiarity with kitchen tools and food safety standards.
  • Physical Stamina: Ability to stand for long periods and perform repetitive tasks.
  • Attention to Detail: Ensuring food is prepared and presented consistently.
  • Teamwork: Ability to work well with kitchen staff and communicate effectively.
  • Time Management: Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.

Qualifications:


  • High school diploma or equivalent (preferred).
  • Previous kitchen or food service experience (a plus).
  • Knowledge of food safety practices (Food Handler?s certification is required).

Work Environment:

  • Work is typically done in kitchens that may be hot and fast-paced.
  • Requires lifting, bending, and standing for extended periods.
  • May require early morning or late-night shifts, weekends, and holidays depending on the establishment?s hours of operation.
