Root’d Cafe’s Food Server job description includes many responsibilities, such as, but not limited too:
- Greeting Guests (If no Host is on shift, or in the event no host is at the host stand): Servers greet guests when they arrive and help them find their seats.
- Taking orders following the 7 outlined on cards given: Servers take orders accurately and input them into a computer system for the kitchen.
**Food Servers are required to know the 7 Steps upon request by management and ownership - they are also required to have this card physically available as a part of their uniform
- Serving food and drinks (Food running): Servers deliver food and drinks to guests on time. (Drinks: 2 Min, Bar Drinks: 6 Min, Apps: 6-8 Min, Entreés 14-18 Min)
- Making all bar drinks (If no Bar is on shift) Quickly and accurately making all drinks sold to guests.
- Identifying ALL guests that wish to drink alcohol by a verifiable, legal, unexpired, accepted form of identification (By the authority of the state and the federal government)
- Clearing tables: Servers clear tables promptly after guests are finished eating.
- Pre-bussing either ALL dishes, or at minimum all dishes that were used to plate entreés, appetizers, desserts.
**Server’s Assistants are just that, meaning every duty that is an S.A.’s Duty is the duty of the food server first, the ‘bussers’ are an extra hand to assist in a food server's duties
- Processing payments: Servers process payments, ensure bills are listed and priced correctly, and return receipts to guests.
- Communicating with kitchen staff: Servers communicate with kitchen staff using their first name, followed by please, to help process orders and accommodate special requests or modifications
**(2 mods maximum per item unless there are extenuating circumstances - which may be completed at the discretion of the kitchen manager or kitchen staff)
- Providing Excellent guest service: Servers provide strong guest service skills, answer guests questions, and receive feedback from guests and from management.
- Maintaining cleanliness: Servers clean and prepare the dining area, do opening, running and closing side-work, ensuring that the dining area, host/expo stand, server station and office are neat, tidy and clean to standard.
- Teaching new hires: Servers may teach new hires how to serve and work according to safety and health standards.
- Required to have Food Handlers Card, and Sips&Tips (as mandated by local, state and federal government entities)
- Having G.R.I.T. in all aspects of the job as described.
Servers should be alert, attentive, and comfortable working in a fast-paced environment, speaking with respect to management, ownership, co-workers, guests, and anyone else that they should run into while on staff and in the vicinity of the cafe or any events involving the cafe and while in uniform in public anywhere.
