IN PERSON SIMPLIFIED CHINESE TRANSLATORS
THIS IS NOT A FULL-TIME POSITION-This is a freelance position with assignments available within flexible business hours, Monday through Friday.
Duties:
- Provide interpreting services as an independent contractor in school and social services structures.
- Please mention on your application if you have any certification.
- Perform duties in a professional manner.
- Turn in client worksheets and invoice within 24 hours of appointment
Qualifications:
1. Linguists or interpreters who are certified and/or have the educational background to provide high quality translations and/or interpretations in the languages listed in this solicitation. These may include any of the following:
- Certification through an organization such as the American Translators Association, the Federal Court Interpreter examination and/or NY State Unified Court System's Language Assessment Testing
- National Association of Judiciary Interpreters & Translation
- Certification Commission for Healthcare Interpreters
- National Board of Certification for Medical Interpreters
- International Medical Interpreters Association (IMIA)
- Training through an academic institution – i.e., NYU School of Professional Studies, Hunter College Certificate in Translation & Interpretation.
- 40 hours of training through an accredited program, such as The Community Interpreter or Bridging the Gap
2. Provide desktop publishing (formats include, but not limited to, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop)
- Must demonstrate fluency in English and a 2nd language
- Must have the flexibility to accept assignments during weekdays and business hours.
- Professional demeanor and appearance
- Awareness of the Code of Ethics and Standards of Practice
- Able to comply with credentialing requirements for independent contractors working in school facilities.
- Able to pass language proficiency and Code of Ethics and Standards of Practice test
- Must be punctual, responsible, and have a reliable means of transportation.
