Position Overview & Requirements:
The General Manager will have full Profit & Loss accountability and will develop and deliver a strategy to maximize operating profit for the Storm Door Division. This role leads an organization comprised of over 550 employees across three facilities and a divisional office based in Des Moines, IA. The GM leads a cross-functional team including Operations, Supply Chain, HR, Sales, Marketing, Finance, Quality, Engineering, and R&D, fostering a culture that prioritizes safety, builds a world-class, injury-free environment, and develops talent.
Responsibilities:
- Strategic Leadership: Develop and implement a business unit strategic plan to achieve growth and profitability targets. Identify new market opportunities and execute plans to capitalize on them. Analyze market trends, customer insights, and competitive landscape to inform business strategies and adapt to changing market conditions.
- Leads People: The GM leads a cross-functional team including Operations, Supply Chain, HR, Sales, Finance, Quality, Engineering, and R&D. Identify and leverage individual strengths and potential within the team. Engage the team in discussions around the longer-term strategy and how they can contribute. Delegate significant responsibilities and decision-making authority to team members, providing guidance. Give team members ownership within their areas of responsibility, setting clear expectations and checking in as needed. Enable team success by removing barriers and providing resources. Invite the team to recommend ways to solve problems, discuss challenging issues or generate new ideas.
- Team Development: Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing team, fostering a culture of appreciation, excellence, innovation, and continuous improvement. Develop team members to meet both their career goals and the organization’s goals. Execute succession plans and individual development plans to elevate talent in support of growth initiatives.
- Financial Performance: Manage the P&L, budgeting, forecasting, and financial reporting to ensure the business unit meets its financial goals.
- Operational Management: Direct operations using KPIs, processes, and standards to achieve safety, quality, delivery, and cost results.
- Continuous Improvement: Drive a culture of continuous improvement and innovation by empowering team members to enhance safety, customer satisfaction, efficiency, effectiveness, and financial results.
- Product Portfolio Management: Direct lifecycle management, new product development, and innovation to meet market demands.
- Community Engagement: Represent Andersen Windows within the Des Moines business community, including board participation at various Des Moines organizations, leading local Andersen philanthropic initiatives, and developing a culture of giving back to the communicates where the Storm Door facilities operate.
Qualifications:
- Senior Business Leadership: Proven track record of value creation as a P&L leader at a senior level. Proven hands-on leader who can set high-level strategy as well as dive into the details. Experience working in the manufacturing industry is required. Experience driving culture changes in large organizations. Experience leading high-performing, entrepreneurial teams.
- Strategic Vision: Skilled in crafting and executing strategic growth initiatives that set new industry standards and customer expectations. Able to evolve the current strategy to generate growth through different channels and increase market share. History of delivering market-leading growth, profitability, and cash flow.
- Operational Excellence and Continuous Improvement: A Deep appreciate and understanding of lean operating principles and their application throughout all functions of the organization. A demonstrated track record of success in developing, planning, and implementing business system initiatives for continuous improvement.
- Relationship and Influence: Naturally connects and builds strong relationships with others, demonstrating strong emotional intelligence and an ability to communicate clearly and persuasively. Creates a sense of purpose/meaning for the team that generates followership beyond their own personality and engages others to the greater purpose for the organization as a whole.

PROFIT SHARING: In 2025 Andersen has set a profit sharing target of $3,500 per eligible employee, prorated as appropriate. Profit sharing will be paid out in quarterly installments to provide eligible employees with payments throughout the year, with payment amounts tied to quarterly operating profit performance.
