General Summary
During the 2025-2026 school year, Cherokee County School District will provide talent development for second grade students, which will be comprised of twenty-six weekly lessons with daily follow-up activities that support critical thinking, problem solving, and creative approaches to learning. These lessons prepare students for applying a variety of problem solving strategies for multiple question types and format patterns they are likely to experience when taking the CogAT or STAR Performance Task Assessment. These assessments are used for identification and qualification into the Gifted and Talented Program, thus the Brain Booster Program strengthens talent development and aids in growing giftedness. These Brain Boosters lessons are intended to enhance memory making and listening skills, assist in recognizing and developing patterns, boost problem solving and reading comprehension techniques, augment student understanding of word complexities, and support student application through logical reasoning and expression. This position will require the teacher to travel to each district second grade classroom and teach a 20-30 minute lesson weekly. The Gifted Talent Development teacher will also provide resources (already created) for classroom teachers to employ for follow up activities, which will reinforce the skills learned from the lessons. Finally, formative and summative assessment data will be gathered, analyzed, and reported to ensure that the program is implemented with fidelity for the benefit of all learners.
